Chapter 17: Composing and Acting

Chapter 17: Composing and Acting

[Name: Eden]

[Age: 18]

[Fame: 6]

[Life Span: 29]

[Literature: 6]

[Music: 19]

...

[Lottery Points: 65]

...

{Talents}

• All Rounder Composer — Level 2

• Actor — Level 2

• All Rounder Instrumentalist — Level 1

...

Right now, the blue light didn't sting as much as it used to. Eden was slowly getting used to the system.

Haa... It's already three fifteen, eh?

The moon was still high in the sky. Taking a small break from composing, he looked at the system, finding the three Level Up Cards.

'I almost forgot about them...'

Looking at the talents he had, Eden remained quiet for a few seconds before his lips parted. 'Oi, System, why isn't there an All Rounder in front of Actor? What's the difference?'

Ding!

[Unlike other talents which aren't found in the host's body, the system has analyzed that the host is a natural actor. Every field is broken down into several All Rounder Sub-Fields; for example, Musician is broken down into All Rounder Composer, All - Rounder Instrumentalist, etc. Once these sub-fields' talents reach Level 10, they'd stay stagnant. The host would have to collect other talents of sub-fields under the musician and level them up to level 10. Once all of them are collected, they will disappear, and a new talent called Musician will appear.]

"Hmm, I see..." Eden nodded his head, understanding what the system had just said.

"Does that mean actor..."

[Indeed, the host is a versatile Actor, though still not very skilled at it. The host has versatile potential and, without even practicing or polishing skills, can already amaze people with acting abilities.]

Hmm?

Who are you?

What did you do to my system?

Eeden was surprised. The system was, for the first time, praising him. This was something new.

[But the host's skills are still unpolished. It's like giving a monkey the world's best AI. The host should strive for improvement.]

"..."

Never mind, I take all of that back.

Eden made a mental note to never fall for the system's flowery words and never judge too early.

Making instant coffee for himself, he savored the flavor, which was pretty bad. But he was slowly getting used to it.

Ah, caffeine, the replacement of alcohol, he said inwardly as he continued drinking while looking at the starry sky. This had become a new hobby of his.

'System, use Level Up Card on Actor.'

'Use the other two Level Up Cards on All Rounder Composer.'

Ding!

[Level Up!]

[Actor — Level 3]

Ding!

[Level Up!]

[All Rounder Composer — Level 3]

Ding!

[Level Up!]

[All Rounder Composer — Level 4]

Looking at the lottery points, he was somewhat tempted to use them on flip the cards. However, after thinking for a few seconds, he decided to go against the idea.

After all, the next game, Spin the Wheel, was just too exciting. Although he'd only receive one reward, each one of these was a great reward like [+20 Level Up Cards], [+3 Uncommon Chests], [+200 Lottery Points], etc.

And he had also made the speculation that upon playing one game, the next one in order would be unlocked. While a game is locked, a person can only see the cost required to play the game, not the contents. It's only when the person plays the prior game that they can successfully unlock the next one.

It was affirmed by the system.

After taking a few minutes to finish his coffee, he looked back at the computer and the wall behind it, riddled with countless small papers.

Looking at them, he slowly recited them in his mind.

Is this fate?

Are we nothing but marionettes?

Breathing and living as the strings of fate are pulled and loosened?

If every action and reaction, cause and consequence, matter of life and death are already decided, then what's the point of living? What's the point of trying to struggle? Why doesn't a person just succumb to their destiny?

If fate's that cruel, then what's the point of living? What's the point of living if one day a meteorite can just come and destroy your house while you're sleeping? What's the point when a random earthquake can destroy all your dreams?

Eden slowly closed his eyes, as he imagined the tune within his head. It was at this moment that he had finally understood what Lena meant.

Too inspired...

He had basically copied most of the things from "It's Fate," changed the lyrics, tried to make a different meaning, and then called it a day.

There was no problem with inspiration; however, these kinds of inspirations could actually hinder the growth of a piece of art. They could ruin a bright future.

Slowly walking towards the wall, he once again began ripping bits and parts of the lyrics and tunes, throwing them in the trash bin.

Man!

I should take a break!

After another 10 minutes of rampage, Eden finally released a tired sigh and jumped straight to the bed. But the moment he did so, it seemed like all the fatigue had instantly disappeared.

Damn it! This damned brain of mine, playing tricks on me! Now if I wake up again, I'm sure it'll make it such that I yawn ten times and feel sleepy again!

It was as though the last two awake brain cells in his head were fighting with each other, not allowing him to get a wink of sleep.

Damn it!

Once again cursing under his breath, Eden sprang back to his feet, walking towards the computer and sitting on the chair.

Brain rot it is!

Seconds later, he was back in bed.

And thus, the cycle continued for an entire hour.

Haa... Damn it! Let's search for something new!

Acting... Yes, let's check the past Rising Star Acting contests and the rules.

Finally making up his mind, Eden walked towards the chair once again, sitting on it. His fingers quickly came in contact with the keyboard of the computer, reflecting the monitor's light in his eyes.

And thus, a new world opened up in front of his eyes...
