Chapter 19: Lack of sleep

Chapter 19: Lack of sleep

Man... Have I gone crazy? Why can't I sleep at all?

Eden deeply wondered as he tried his best to get some sleep.

What the hell?

Usually, these lectures are more than enough to put me into a deep slumber. What happened today?

Eden wondered as he kept his eyes shut. Finally, the class ended. He was somewhat drowsy as he looked at his watch.

Oh sh*t. I have to clean the instruments.

"Errmmm... You don't have to."

"What?"

"You don't have to."

"But why?"

"Do you even hear yourself? Student... You clearly require some sleep. Your eyes might pop out of the sockets. Go brat, go to your room."

'Strange man,' Eden commented inwardly, but he wasn't complaining.

"And, as for you, young lad." The professor smiled as he wrapped his arms around Theo. "Get to work!"

***

"Yawn, maybe I can only sleep on my bed today. Some kind of curse, I guess," Eden said casually as he shrugged his shoulders and then, after changing into more comfortable clothes, jumped onto his bed.

Ah~ Indeed, this bed is the most comfort-inducing one. I can only relax properly on this bed.

Eden closed his eyes. However, instinctively, he would move his leg or fingers.

To sleep properly, one must remain motionless for ten minutes on the bed...

Argh! This is precious time that I could use to improve myself!

He exclaimed inwardly in frustration.

Quickly thirty minutes had passed by, but unfortunately, he hadn't even gotten a wink of sleep. Standing up, he walked toward his chair and sat on it.

This happens to me many times! If I work, I feel sleepy. The moment I touch the bed, all my sleepiness disappears. Yes, I have to work for thirty minutes.

I have to work for thirty minutes... I have to work for thirty minutes... It had become a mantra.

He continued scribbling on the paper as he simultaneously worked on the computer.

This should put me to sleep, right...? Well, let's focus on the song...

If high notes are used here...

I think for the middle part, falsetto should be used...

Damn! At this rate, more than one singer might be needed for this song...

Grabbing his other pen, he once again began scribbling.

"Eyes to eyes~"

"Heart to Heart~"

"It's destiny...

.

.

.

"In the Fate's stream..."

"Life is a fleeting dream~"

"Huff... Man, that was refreshing. Bruh, I don't feel sleepy. Heh, it's just 6:30. The sun has yet to even set."

He looked at the watch in disappointment. Who knew he could do so much in so little time? He had almost finished developing the new structure and adding lyrics.

Just as he was about to play the tune, the door burst open. Hugie walked in yawning.

"Oh, you are up," he said as he looked at Eden's back.

"Yeah. You're early. Normally, you'd be stuck in the studio till seven or eight, and then spend the rest of the night yapping about the subjects and teaching me." Eden chuckled. Hugie was also about to chuckle but then froze as he tried to process what Eden had just said.

"What do you mean I'm early?"

"What? You normally come by 8. Did you think that you're late again today? Surprise, surprise, it's just 6:30."

"A.M."

"What?"

"A.M."

"Pardon?"

"A.M. Haa," Hugie slowly sat on the couch.

"What A.M? Are you once again drunk?"

Listening to this, he stood up and dashed towards Eden, turning his chair. "6:30 AM! It's 6:30 in the morning! Can't you see, the sun is rising!"

"Eh? Bro, have you gone crazy? Do you wish to go to the infirmary? Did you drink something really weird?"

"Haa... F*ck, did you not sleep the whole night?! Are you crazy?! Did you even eat anything?!"

"Ermmm... Now that you mention..." Eden slowly placed his palm over his stomach. His movements were a bit sluggish.

"Oh my f*cking God!" Hugie nearly pulled his hair out.

"Are you pranking me? Where's the camera?"

"F*cker, first eat something!"

Eden instantly tried to stand up. "Bro, how's your acting so good. This has to be a-"

Thud!

Like a rock, he fell to the ground with a loud thud.

What the-

He saw Hugie's worried face before his consciousness slipped away.

***

Ah...

Light slowly penetrated his vision, stinging his eyes.

I'm still alive...

As the memories of what last happened before he fell unconscious entered his mind, Eden realized that he finally slept. Not in a good way though...

I collapsed... At least I slept for a bit.

"Oh, you're awake?"

"Un." Eden nodded as he tried to change his posture and sit on the bed.

"You didn't eat anything for an entire day, nor did you sleep. You must have gotten the artist fever, right?" The nurse chuckled.

Artist fever was actually a famous term, rather a slang used for those artists who would laze around every day and start their work a few days prior to the deadline, not sleeping or eating in the process.

"Who brought me in here...?"

"Well, that brat with brown hair. Your friend seems to greatly care about you."

"I see..." His mood brightened to some extent. The fact that this friend of his had such a caring side deeply touched Eden.

He wasn't just pretending.

'A true homie indeed.'

"Anyways, here, have this." She handed him a tray, which had a burger in the middle, seated on a plate.

Burger?

Is it okay for me to eat something so heavy after not having anything for an entire day?

Eden wondered as he grabbed the burger. It was only after taking a bite into the burger that Eden realized why it was served to him.

Ugh, krovis fish eyeball patty?

Krovis fishes were infamous for their taste and the amount of protein their body possessed. On top of that, they were quite cheap too. Their meat was hard to digest, but on the contrary, their eyeballs could be digested easily. Containing a healthy amount of protein, many such eyeballs were smashed together to make a patty and then with some fiber-containing vegetables and two buns were turned into a burger.

However, unfortunately, this dish was known for its disgusting taste...

'Ugh, anyways... I owe Hugie big time.'
