Chapter 39 - A Lesson From The Marquess

Percy resumed his daily assignments the following day, while Maggie spent the days touring the house with Edgar and learning the ropes of becoming a good Marchioness.

Sometimes, they met during breakfast.

They never met during lunch.

But they always supped together at dinner time, during which they exchanged updates of the day.

"The hurricane last night was a nightmare," Maggie reported. "Half the garden lies in ruins, with one unfortunate tree toppling over and demolishing the gazebo. We've been working tirelessly all day to mend the garden and salvage the gazebo."

"Yes. The gazebo is still under repair, it will probably last several more days. On a brighter note, the garden can use some remodeling. Would you like to install a small fountain for a change?"

Percy sawed a piece off his steak.

"You are the lady of the house. You may remodel the entire house if you want."

Maggie widened her eyes in disbelief.

"Really?"
