The Wronged Son

My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as a surge of anger burned within me, growing ever stronger.

What made it even more unbearable was the presence of a slightly plump woman beside her—my mother-in-law, Sean's mother, Aaliyah. They seemed very familiar with each other, chatting animatedly.

The smile in Aaliyah's eyes was practically euphoric, and they greeted other parents picking up their children.

It appeared the Deng family had long accepted this mistress, perhaps even forgotten about my existence.

Years ago, they squeezed six or seven people into a less-than-50-square-meter family dormitory.

Without me, they wouldn't know when they'd escape such a harsh environment. It was the Lu family's money that got them into a 200-square-meter luxury apartment, yet they completely disregarded me, the person who pulled them out of their misery.

At that moment, I wanted to open the car door and give them a surprise, to remind Sean's mother that I was still alive, and that it was too early to crown the mistress. But the next second, I saw a chubby little boy running out of the school, joyfully rushing into Elena's arms. I quickly retracted my hand.

Elena wiped the sweat off the boy's forehead with a smile and pointed to Aaliyah. The obedient child then threw himself into Aaliyah's arms, making her beam with delight. The natural display of affection was so genuine, so harmonious.

But Elena didn't leave immediately; she continued standing at the gate with Aaliyah, occasionally greeting others. I couldn't understand—were they waiting for Gage to get out of school? My heart tightened. They were truly brazen! I suppressed my rage, wanting to see what would happen next.

Sure enough, twenty minutes later, I saw my Gage walking out slowly with his backpack, looking displeased. My heart instantly tightened. Seeing my Gage's dejected demeanor, he didn't show any surprise upon seeing his grandmother and Elena, indicating that he was also familiar with them.

Elena's son was the first to run over. The lively child, with a white, clean face and a pair of charming eyes like Sean's, stopped in front of Gage, looking up and saying something.

Gage, although low-spirited, smiled at Elena and said something before looking at his grandmother.

Aaliyah, with a face full of displeasure, said something and then roughly pulled Gage over, her expression completely different from when she was with Elena and her son.

Gage shook off her hand and walked out with large strides. Aaliyah said something to Elena before chasing after Gage.

I wanted to start the car, but there were too many parents picking up their children, blocking my way. At that moment, Elena, seeing Aaliyah's departing back, smiled disdainfully, then took her son's hand and left, greeting other parents.

My eyes followed their departing figures, only to be struck with another blow to my heart in the next second—Elena and her son got into a Porsche 911. This was a car I always liked, but I felt it was too expensive. As a stay-at-home mom, buying such an extravagant car seemed too ostentatious. Later, Sean said he needed a good car for business meetings, so we bought a Bentley for him and I got his BMW, while the old car was given to Anna for grocery shopping.

I couldn't believe Sean would be so generous, giving the mistress a car far superior to mine. I couldn't help but laugh at myself—laughing at the Lu family's money being shared with anyone who came along. I laughed until I was in tears, biting my lip in rage.

Watching Elena drive away in style, I regained my composure and drove directly to the Deng family home.

Upon entering the house, I saw Aaliyah sitting on the sofa, harshly scolding Gage, who stood in front of her with his head down, looking as if he had committed a grave mistake. Hearing the door, Aaliyah stopped her tirade and looked over. Her expression changed from confusion to shock, rendering her speechless.

When I walked up to her, she finally stammered, "You... you... why are you here?"

"Mom!" I greeted her, my mouth sweet but my heart bitter. "I came to see my Gage!"

"You... aren't you sick? How come..." she pointed at me, at a loss for words.

I couldn't be bothered with her. The scene at the school gate had made me see through their true colors.

"What happened, Gage?" I walked over, squatted down, and gently pulled Gage towards me. His expression mirrored his grandmother's shock, and his small body stiffened. As I touched him, he instinctively resisted and pulled back.

I looked at him, softly whispering, "It's mommy, Gage!"

The current situation reminded me of the surveillance video where Anna, pointing at my comatose self, scared the children away.

"Gage, mommy is better now! Mommy missed you, baby!" I tried to soften my voice, gradually tightening my arms around him, patting his back gently. I could feel his body slowly relaxing. But I noticed his eyes nervously glancing at his grandmother.

At that moment, I had a sudden thought—I needed to get my children out of the Deng family home.

I stood up, tightly holding Gage's small hand, not wanting to let go.

Aaliyah, now back to her senses, looked at me with displeasure, "You're still sick, running around like this, looking like this. Not to criticize you, Chloe, but you're not taking care of your image at all! What are you thinking?"
