The moment Jason's eyes fully opened, Aiden couldn't stop himself—he rushed forward and wrapped his arms tightly around his father.
It had been too long. Even before the kidnapping, Aiden had barely seen his dad, with missions and work keeping them apart. Now, feeling the warmth of his father again, the tension in his chest finally eased.
Jason let out a tired chuckle, resting a weak but firm hand on his son's back. "It's alright, kid. I'm okay."
Aiden nodded against him, his voice quieter. "I missed you… I was afraid something bad might've happened."
Jason smiled, shaking his head. "C'mon, you think your old man would go down that easy? I wouldn't be much of an agent if that were the case."
Aiden pulled back slightly and gave him a smirk. "Dad, you were on death's door before I got here."
Jason raised a brow before grinning and flexing what little strength he had. "And? I'd say my survival skills include 'getting my son to save me.' Pretty impressive, huh?"
Aiden let out a genuine laugh, and for a moment, things felt… normal.
...
Two hours later.
Jason had fallen back asleep, his body still weak from the curse. Aiden knew he needed time to recover.
Stepping outside, he walked onto a balcony overlooking the Resistance's base. Below, countless soldiers trained—sparring, strategizing, preparing for war. Massive corridors stretched across the underground structure, and the sheer scale of it was astonishing.
'To build something like this… underground?'
He leaned on the railing, eyes scanning the incredible infrastructure. It was a masterpiece of engineering.
Behind him, Valeria approached, casually resting her arms on the railing beside him. "Impressed?" she asked, amusement lacing her voice.
Aiden exhaled. "More than impressed. A place like this… the design, the scale—it must've taken a lot of brilliant minds to make it happen."
Valeria smiled. "Just one."
Aiden blinked before turning to her. "Wait… you?"
She shrugged, a small smirk playing on her lips.
His eyebrow lifted. "As expected of a Richards."
But then, as he studied her expression, his sharp eyes caught the slight shift—the way her gaze dropped, just barely.
"…Any relation to Reed Richards?" he asked carefully.
There was a pause. Then, in a quiet voice, she answered.
"…He was my father."
Aiden stilled.
"He and my mother," Valeria continued, voice steady but distant, "were killed… by Thor."
For a moment, neither of them spoke. The weight of her words hung in the air.
Finally, Aiden exhaled. "I'm sorry. I didn't know."
She didn't respond, just staring down at the soldiers below.
After a beat, he added, "Wherever he is… your father is still an incredible man. He's the reason I was able to find my dad."
Valeria turned to him, studying his expression carefully. Then, she asked the question lingering in her mind.
"So… what's your move now? You found your father—will you be leaving?"
Aiden lowered his eyes slightly. His fingers curled against the railing.
"…I have six days."
Valeria's brow furrowed. "Six days until what?"
Aiden's expression darkened.
"In those six days… I'll kill Thor for you." His voice was calm—too calm. "And I'll rip the heart out of Amara for what she did to my dad."
Valeria's eyes narrowed slightly. "You're being reckless."
Aiden tilted his head, but she continued before he could respond. "You seriously think you can defeat Thor? Even with all your power, do you have any idea what you're up against?"
Aiden sighed, turning his gaze back to the sprawling Resistance base below. "My dad chose your side," he said simply. "That means your side is my side."
Valeria studied him, her expression unreadable. Then, after a pause, she asked, "Why? Why do you care so much? This isn't even your world."
Aiden exhaled. "Because this world…" he then stopped his words and gestured toward the towering machinery, the vast underground structures, the sheer technological marvel surrounding them. "This world is far more advanced than mine. I'd say it's at least a hundred years ahead in development."
Then, he turned to her. "Tell me something, Valeria." His eyes locked onto hers. "Are you smarter than your father?"
Valeria's expression didn't waver. "Yes," she said with absolute confidence. "No—I'm certain that I'm the smartest person to have ever lived."
Aiden nodded. "Then let me ask you this, My world's Reed Richards was able to access the multiverse. If he could do it—why haven't you?"
Valeria stiffened ever so slightly.
Aiden didn't stop. "If you're the smartest person alive, then why are you still here? Why haven't you left this world for a better one?"
Silence.
For the first time, Valeria had no immediate answer. Anyone else might have said, Because this is my home. Because I couldn't abandon it.
But Valeria?
She was a creature of logic. Of reason. That wasn't her answer.
And before she could even begin to formulate one, another voice cut through the air.
Elsa.
She stepped onto the balcony, arms crossed, her piercing gaze focused on Valeria. "That's because," she said coolly, "the machine—the so-called heartless, logical genius—still hopes for revenge."
Valeria's breath hitched ever so slightly, her eyes flicking toward Elsa.
Aiden observed the moment of hesitation. Then, without a word, he reached out and placed a hand on Valeria's head, patting her gently.
She was his age. And yet, she had endured far too much.
He spoke softly, but his words carried weight.
"For my father."
"For your world."
"For my own sake."
Then, finally, he looked straight into Valeria's eyes.
"And for the sake of your vengeance… I will kill Thor."
"…And I will save your world."
Valeria stared at Aiden with an odd expression, her sharp eyes studying him like an unsolvable equation. After a moment, she exhaled and shook her head.
"Ever since you walked in here… I knew," she murmured. "I could never understand you. I can't predict what you'll do, or what kind of person you really are."
She then turned to Elsa. "And you… he's just like you."
Aiden smirked. "Maybe." He then added with a glint in his eye, "But I'm stronger."
Elsa scoffed. "You're arrogant."
Aiden chuckled, lifting his hand. A small flame flickered to life on the tip of his finger, burning steadily against the dim light of the balcony. The fire cast a soft glow on his face as he spoke.
"This was a gift," he said. "I am powerful. Beyond normal. It took me time to realize it, but I am beyond others."
He turned his gaze to Valeria. "You can relate, can't you?"
Valeria was silent for a moment, then nodded. Just like Aiden had always known he was powerful, she had always known she was the smartest.
Aiden's flame flickered as he looked ahead. "Then you understand."
His voice was steady, unwavering.
"If I'm powerful, then I will use that power. I will save people. I will help them. I will save worlds… not just one, but all that suffer."
He clenched his fist, extinguishing the flame.
"Because if I don't…" His red eyes darkened slightly. "I will be without purpose."
Then, he turned back to them, his expression firm.
"And a man with no purpose… is no man at all."
