Back at the table, the atmosphere remained heavy with silence. The earlier battle still lingered in their minds, its intensity undeniable. Carl had returned to his seat, exhaling deeply as he rubbed his sore jaw. Across from him, Elsa watched with a mocking grin, clearly enjoying his humiliation.
Carl let out a tired chuckle before turning his gaze to Aiden. "Damn, kid… you really did a number on me," he muttered, shaking his head. "Look, I wasn't trying to be difficult. I was just trying to make you understand something." His voice dropped, his usual drunken bravado replaced with something more solemn. "Thor… he's strong. Stronger than anything you can imagine. Even with everything you just showed me… it's still not enough."
His words carried a weight that made the table fall silent. Carl leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples as if trying to chase away painful memories. "I know how I look—some drunk, washed-up fool. Pathetic, right? But you don't understand… I tried. God knows I did. Every damn time, I fought. Every damn time, I lost. And every damn time… I survived." His voice trembled, his fingers tightening around his drink. "Some days, I wish I hadn't."
Aiden studied Carl carefully. He understood. Failing, over and over again, could break a man. He'd seen warriors with all the strength in the world crumble under the weight of defeat.
Valeria finally spoke up, her voice steady. "I agree with Carl. Thor is too powerful. We've faced him before, time and time again, and we've never come close to winning." Her fingers tapped against the table. "He's stronger. Wiser. More battle-hardened. And most importantly… he wields the Necrosword."
At that, Aiden narrowed his eyes.
"The Necrosword?" he repeated.
"A weapon as old as time," Valeria confirmed. "Its only purpose is to kill gods."
A heavy silence settled over the room. Even those who had heard it before felt the weight of those words.
"But," Valeria continued, her gaze sharpening, "that doesn't mean we're completely out of options."
She gestured toward the holographic display. A projection flickered to life above the table, revealing the image of a woman draped in dark robes, her face obscured by a veil.
"Her name is Amora the Enchantress," Valeria said. "We don't know much about her—where she came from, what her true motives are. But one thing is clear: she's the one pulling the strings in Valhalla. She commands the Dark Valkyries and Thor's generals. The kind of power and influence you'd expect 'him' to wield… but he doesn't."
Aiden frowned, his mind working through the implications.
"Which leads me to believe," Valeria continued, "that she's responsible for what he's become."
Elsa folded her arms, her expression grim. "Even if that's true, getting to her won't be easy. She's never alone. The Four Generals guard her at all times, and they're just as dangerous as Thor."
Bucky nodded. "I fought one of them before. Barely made it out alive...."
Aiden leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "Then let's start with the real question." His voice was calm, but his eyes burned with determination.
"What happened to Thor?" He glanced at the hologram of Amora before looking back at Valeria. "How did he become this? What turned him into the Supreme God?"
Valeria sighed, rubbing her temples as she gathered her thoughts. "There isn't much information about the specifics… but the records all point to one thing—the Necrosword."
She glanced at Aiden, her expression solemn. "Fifty years ago—long before I was born—a man named Gorr the God Butcher emerged. He wielded the Necrosword and cut down gods like they were nothing. He didn't just kill them—he erased their legacies, leaving entire pantheons extinct."
Aiden listened intently, feeling the weight of her words.
"Gorr's greatest crime, though, was against Asgard," Valeria continued. "During his invasion, he killed Thor's mother. It was one of the darkest days in Asgardian history. Thor eventually faced him in battle, and after a long, grueling fight, he won. He avenged his mother and slew Gorr, putting an end to his reign of terror… or so he thought."
Her fingers traced an invisible pattern on the table, a subtle sign of her unease.
"Ten years later, the Necrosword reemerged—not with Gorr, but with a new host. A far more dangerous one." She paused, then spoke the name like it was a curse.
"Ego. The Living Planet."
Aiden's eyes narrowed.
"It went straight for Thor," Valeria said. "On what should have been the greatest day of his life—his coronation, the day he became King Thor—Odin was stepping down, passing the throne to his son. Then Ego arrived. What followed was a battle unlike any other… and this time, Thor lost."
A heavy silence settled over the room.
"Asgard was destroyed. Odin was killed. The Necrosword had taken both of Thor's parents. The surviving Asgardians fled to Earth, establishing New Asgard—their last refuge. But the nightmare wasn't over. Ego followed, intending to devour the Earth itself."
Aiden clenched his fists.
"But this time, Thor had allies—the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men. Together, they managed to defeat Ego. The Necrosword was sealed away in New Asgard, locked away in fear that it would find another host."
She exhaled sharply. "For years, there was peace. Earth prospered. But then—almost as if mocking him—the sword did find another wielder."
Aiden's stomach twisted as the realization dawned on him. "...Thor?"
Valeria shook her head. "No. Loki."
The room seemed to darken at the name.
"Thor's own brother. Filled with jealousy, he sought out the sword. And once it was in his grasp, the corruption took hold. Loki went on a rampage, killing Beta Ray Bill—one of Thor's closest friends." Her voice lowered. "And then… the sword forced him to do the unthinkable. It made him kill Loki—his last remaining family."
Aiden said nothing.
"This time, though… instead of sealing the Necrosword away, Thor took it."
Valeria's voice grew quiet, almost distant. "At first, the corruption was slow. Thor was strong—stronger than any god before him. He resisted the sword's influence, remaining a just king for New Asgard. But then… sixteen years ago, when I was just a baby—everything changed."
Aiden could see it now. The tragedy. The inevitability.
"No one knows how or why… but Thor lost himself. He gave in to the sword. And with the full power of the Necrosword in his hands…" She swallowed. "He became unstoppable. He invaded Earth. Killed its mightiest heroes. Took over."
Aiden remained silent as she finished.
"He declared himself Supreme King of Valhalla—a twisted version of heaven, one of his own making." She turned toward the hologram of Amora. "Personally, I think she had something to do with it. Because the moment she appeared… everything changed."
