Chapter 19: Zombies in Marvel Terrify Everyone

"But this Marcus boy used the word 'descend.' Could it really be a god descending? If that's the case, we're in big trouble. It would mean that those legendary gods might actually exist." Agent Hill pointed out the issue with the wording.

But if that's truly the case, it means that the gods from those mythologies might really exist. Just think about those gods in myths who can shatter the lands or summon lightning from the skies. They are beyond what S.H.I.E.L.D. can handle.

They still need UV bullets or silver bullets to deal with ordinary werewolves and vampires but they have to be fully armed to barely match these monsters in combat.

But what if they are gods?

And if gods exist, what about demons?

These are all unspeakable existences. In mythological stories, whether they are gods or demons, they generally possess powerful energy that S.H.I.E.L.D.'s current system cannot handle.

"If that's the case, we might have to consider dealing with these demons and gods."

Nick Fury said.

Yes, in his mind, even gods are not of their kind. What if they invade Earth? After all, in various myths, there are plots of gods enslaving ordinary humans.

"As for demons, I know a playboy exorcist. Maybe we can ask him about some things." In Nick's mind, the image of a carefree white man appeared.

He is not entirely ignorant about hell and demons. It's just that those occasional demons that possess ordinary people are not particularly troublesome.

Moreover, humanity has special professions like paladins, exorcists, and demon hunters. But if they descend on a large scale, it would be a different story.

"Hey, guys, shouldn't our focus be on this? Avengers assemble to fight aliens? Alien armies?" Natasha, the Black Widow, said.

Upon hearing this, everyone's expressions changed slightly. Compared to gods and demons, alien invasions seem like a more acceptable scenario for the average American.

"Hopefully, it won't be an alien army. If it's just a few aliens, we might still be able to fight." Hawkeye Barton felt a bit uneasy.

He has been through countless battles, but none of those battles included aliens. Who knows what aliens are like?

"If that's the case, I think I understand what Marcus meant by not having many good days left."

Nick thought for a moment and then said, "But I think the scale shouldn't be too large; otherwise, the Avengers alone wouldn't be enough."

He was very clear about the Avengers he had assembled. Honestly, even with the addition of Tony Stark, Iron Man, and the planned Hulk, it was still just a small team.

He intended them for elite special operations, not for full-scale warfare. After all, even the mighty Hulk had to avoid human armies.

If aliens could invade Earth, it meant their strength far exceeded that of Earth.

"Aliens, aliens, aliens…"

In Tony's mansion, he was fixated on the contents of the diary. He wasn't too concerned about other things, but the alien invasion was enough to keep him worried.

First Thor, then an alien invasion—each one was no small matter.

Especially when it came to alien invasions, his mind was filled with scenes from various Hollywood blockbusters, featuring all kinds of aliens. But undoubtedly, in each scenario, their strength far surpassed that of current humans.

Humans might be the dominant species on Earth, but on a cosmic scale, they were just a bunch of small, weak monkeys who hadn't even left their planet.

This realization poured cold water on the pride Tony had felt after creating the Mark 1 armor, cooling him down instantly.

The Mark 1 armor he created was more than sufficient to deal with ordinary Earth-based threats, but against aliens, it might just end up being a toy in their eyes.

He had to find a way to upgrade the Mark 1 armor and increase production.

The lone-wolf approach was no longer suitable.

Tony immediately gave up on the idea of going out to find a model. He had to keep working.

"Jarvis, create a new file named Mark II, and another one for a feasibility study on mass-producing the Mark 1 armor," Tony said.

"Sure. The files have been created," Jarvis replied.

"No, that's not enough. Jarvis, create a reminder for me to turn this house into a fortress capable of withstanding the apocalypse." Tony added after some thought.

Besides the threat of aliens that Marcus mentioned, he also spoke of a time when the entire city could turn into zombies. To protect himself and Pepper, Tony had to transform his mansion into a fortress, both above and below ground.

Such doomsday bunkers were quite popular during the peak of the Cold War, with many wealthy individuals making similar preparations. Tony, however, had never believed in such things.

But now, knowing the danger, he couldn't afford to remain ignorent.

Even if it was just a possible future, Marcus himself admitted it was hard to predict if things would evolve into such an absurd future.

"And also, find a way to hack into various biotech companies and national-level labs around the world to monitor their research progress. Check if any of their research could lead to a large-scale zombie outbreak." Tony said after some thought. "Especially keep a close watch on our country's government projects."

Tony knew the true nature of the U.S. government all too well. If news suddenly broke that they were researching a zombie virus, he wouldn't be surprised.

In his understanding, the so-called timeline was just a possibility. The future might not necessarily turn into a scenario where the city is overrun by zombies, but it is possible.

Therefore, he has to prepare in advance. If there really is a virus that could lead to the extinction of humanity, he has to find a way to intervene early.

Sitting back and waiting or turning a blind eye was not his style.

"Jarvis, create another reminder for me to keep monitoring these labs and companies for any suspicious activities," Tony added, determined to prevent such a catastrophe.
