Broken Mana Core & Quest

This alley wasn't really the perfect place for Kieran to check if this new body had a Mana Core, but he had no other choice.

First of all, he still hadn't gotten the memories of the former owner of this body, and he knew that it was probably due to the intense headache he was feeling at the moment.

Apart from that, the bruises on his body were giving him slight pains, but he still decided to ignore them.

That was just how desperate he was to check if this body had a Mana Core.

"So, System, how are you going to help me check?" Kieran asked.

He didn't know how to check for his Mana Core, and the System wanted to help him, so he decided to accept the help, because that was the most important thing now.

[It's just basically sensing the Mana Core, and in order to do that, you must concentrate, and move your consciousness to the right side of the chest, where the Mana Core is located]

Now, that was where the problem was. Kieran understood what the System said, after all, he had already heard them from the children of other nobles, but doing it was the issue.

He didn't even know how to concentrate well in the first place, talk less of sensing his Mana Core.

[I'll help you, Host]

"Hmm, you'll help me concentrate? How can you do that?" Kieran asked.

[Host, I'm bound to you, so I can also help you with different things, including sensing your Mana Core]

"Wow, that's great," Kieran muttered, though, the level of cautiousness he had for the system increased.

The system was basically saying it could manipulate his concentration, and even sense his Mana Core, it was too good to be true, that was why Kieran was even more cautious.

But, what he didn't expect was...

[Right now, I have details of your Mana Core]

"Huh?" Kieran muttered, with shock evident in his voice.

"What do you mean?"

[Even before I was bound to you, Master had already given me details about your new body, so I know basically everything about you, though, I'm sure she exempted some things]

At this point, Kieran was now even more curious about this "Master" that the system was talking about.

"What happened? Why was I reincarnated? What does your Master want from me?" Kieran asked all at once, but he already knew that he wouldn't get an answer.

[I'm sorry, Host, but I can't disclose such information]

Kieran read these words, and he wasn't even surprised, because he already expected it, but even with that, he still thought of something.

'This system claimed to be the revenge system, meaning it was made specifically for revenge.'

'Then it was sent to me, probably because I want to get revenge, but what if I don't want to get revenge anymore?' Kieran thought.

The system's name clearly proved something, it clearly showed that it was targeted towards revenge, so that caused Kieran to have that thought.

"What if I don't want to get revenge anymore, then what would happen?" Kieran asked the system openly.

[Nothing. I'll just stick with you, and aid you in whatever you choose to do]

Now, that certainly came as a surprise to Kieran. He was expecting that the system would say something about leaving him, or even killing him, but it seemed that wasn't the case.

[I was created to support you in whatever you do, and that's what I'll do]

Seeing those words didn't make Kieran any less cautious, but at least, he understood some things about the system.

"So, tell me, what are the details of my Mana Core?" He asked.

[Host, you have a Mana Core]

Immediately Kieran saw those words, he couldn't help but sigh in relief.

He thought that the sysem would say that he didn't have a Mana Core, but thankfully, that wasn't the case.

[But....]

"Huh? But what?" Kieran asked as his heart skipped a beat, anticipating the system's next words.

[Your Mana Core is... broken]

"Wait.... what? What do you mean? I don't understand," Kieran said.

This time, he didn't bother to speak telepathically, because this was something serious that he didn't even understand.

[Host, the original owner of this body got into something, and had his Mana Core broken]

Kieran's eyes were wide open in shock as he tried to process what the system just said.

His eyebrows twitched, and he clenched his fists. At this point, the pain from the bruises on his body disappeared, and he was lost for a second.

"I still don't understand.....what do you mean? I've never heard of a broken Mana Core...." Kieran whispered, his voice barely audible.

[Yes, that's because it has never happened to anyone, well, except the original owner of this body]

Kieran's was hoping that if he had a Mana Core, then revenge was possible, and yes, he had a Mana Core, but it was broken.

How bad could life be?

In his first life, he didn't have a Mana Core, and now, in his second life, he had a broken Mana Core.

"I can't just believe you, I have to confirm," Kieran muttered.

Instantly, Kieran closed his eyes, and tried to drown out every other noise in the surrounding, and as expected, it wasn't working, after all, Mana played a crucial role in doing that.

But as he was about to open his eyes, he suddenly felt like he wasn't hearing anything again.

'Wait.....is this actually working?' He thought.

But then, he realized that it was actually the system that was helping him concentrate like this.

The next second, he found himself in a dark space, similar to the one where he saw the blue portal.

'Shit..... I'm back to that place...'

Kieran suddenly felt something behind him, and when he looked back, he saw a small transparent orb.

There was nothing in the orb, but the most noticable thing about it were the cracks that were all over it's body.

Kieran knew before from his mother that Mana Cores usually glow, but this one wasn't glowing, and the cracks on it's body also showed that.....

It was broken.

'So it's true, huh? What am I gonna do now?' Kieran thought as he felt himself being pulled out from this space.

In a matter of seconds, he opened his eyes, and found himself back in the alley.

But before he could even say anything to the system about what he saw, the transparent screen suddenly materialized in front of him again, but this time..... it displayed something different.

[Target is close by]

[Target has been scanned, and confirmed to be related to the revenge mission]

[Target is a threat]

[Generating quest...]
