Chapter 46: The Darkest Temptation

The silver-eyed man laughed, a deep intimate sound. "Won't? Or can't?"

I let out a sharp breath and almost got ready to respond when he took a step closer causing my spine to tingle with his presence.

"You've held on for so long" he continued in his soft voice, almost sympathetic. "To pain, to love, to a past that has nothing but shattered you. And for what?"

I shook my head trying to shake off his words but they seeped in anyway like poison through the cracks of my defenses.

"Vickson would never want this for me" I said, clutching my arms like that would keep me together.

The silver-eyed man's expression didn't change but his look became different somehow.

"Are you sure?"

His words struck like a dagger and I stiffened.

"Vickson fought for you, yes," he said, pushing his head slightly. "But do you ever really believe in him?"

My breath caught.
