Chapter 41: Madness

With a low growl, the few drops of dew that splattered in the air had just bounced off a jagged fern leaf when it gave way to a storm wolf with a mixture of gray and black fluffy fur. The adult male wolf opened his mouth wide, revealing a mouthful of sharp black and yellow canine teeth, as well as two long saber teeth that lunged out at Allen. Unfortunately, before it could bite Allen, a tactical long knife stabbed into the wolf's muzzle from below, penetrating his brain.

The impact still pushed Allen back a few steps, and he didn't even have time to draw his longsword. With a sweep of his right hand, Mad Butcher struck horizontally and sliced the head of another Tyrannical Wolf off.

  "Get down!"

Lucy's yell rang out behind her, and Alan couldn't think twice about it and immediately looked down. Several consecutive gunshots rang out, echoing in this forest. Several riotous wolves that were about to charge up the short slope all gave Lucy point-blank shots to the head, only then did Allen pull out his long knife, turn around and run wildly carrying the Mad Butcher, and ran out of this jungle together with Lucy.

A grassland lies ahead, the forest belt on the left hand side is thinning out, and after two to three hundred meters there are only a few scattered trees dotting the gray and white rocks of the mountains. Eventually the end of the forest belt bordered the edge of the mountain range, where the trend of the mountain range was undulating, forming a complex mountain turnoff. In comparison, fleeing to the grasslands was tantamount to suicide. Alan immediately pointed in the direction of the mountains, "Quick, run that way!"

At this moment, the morning light was beginning to break, yet the two had already been chased by the storm wolves all night. These dangerous species seemed to have been stimulated in some way and had become violent. Ellen and Lucy ran south, escaped into the original woods and then turned around and pushed west. The wolves were in hot pursuit of them, occasionally letting them get away, but just after resting for a few moments, they were again targeted by other wolves.

Several wolf packs in the area, thousands of storm wolves all driven, followed some sort of planned route to drive the two of them, Allen and Lucy, in the designated direction. Luckily, the member didn't intend to just kill the two of them, and whenever the storm wolves chased them too fast, the signal wavelength that was dropped would be adjusted, causing the wolves to slow down their pace. It was only when the two Allen's pulled away some more distance that the wolves were urged to pursue again.

In this way, man and wolf chased each other all night. By now, both sides were exhausted. Alan ran into the mountains with Lucy, his throat now dry as a bone and his heart beating so fast that it seemed as if it would be ripped out of his chest in the next second. It was all a sign of exhaustion as he climbed a low hill and searched around, hoping to find a place where he could avoid the wolves.

If they kept running, within two bells, he and Lucy would be off their feet. By then, the storm wolves would easily tear them apart.

"They're coming!" Lucy called out, behind them, a large number of storm wolves had already rushed out of the forest. The storm wolves running at the front were less than two hundred meters away from them, only the influence of the complicated mountain passes prevented these beasts from running in a straight line like the plains.

But that won't slow them down for long.

"That way!" Alan finally found a suitable hiding spot. It was a mountain crevice that was only wide enough for one person to pass through. Storm wolves were difficult to enter in packs, and by utilizing this mountain crevice, they could temporarily hide for a while.

The two of them immediately darted down the slope, only to jump off the ground when a raging wolf followed them from behind. Allen swung a wild butchery and slapped it on the head, sending the wolf flying, and Lucy added a shot that killed it. The two of them didn't have time to care about the result, and immediately ran towards the mountain crevice. This crevice looked quite deep, rays of sunlight shone in from the cracks in the upper mountain, and it could be seen that inside was a narrow space on the outside and wide on the inside. Both of them were overjoyed and hurriedly shrunk towards the slit.

Lucy, being small in stature, went in first. Alan broke off and saw that Lucy had already gone in before he followed and pushed his way inside. A few moments later arrived at the inner cave, here is very dry, the ground is rough rock layer. Lucy was so tired that as soon as she came in she sat straight down on the floor, panting heavily. Alan also leaned against the stone wall to catch his breath, and when the low growl of a storm wolf sounded outside, he hastily gestured toward Lucy to silence her.

The two held their breath as a large pack of storm wolves passed outside the cave at once. They didn't seem to notice anything unusual in here and still searched for the two Allen's. Allen was just glad to have dodged a bullet when suddenly a male wolf with brown fur stopped. Using his big nose, he sniffed at the entrance of the mountain crevice, and then barked furiously towards the cave.

  "Discovered!" Alan said helplessly.

Lucy looked around, there was no way back, but the mountain above her had cracked to reveal a fissure. But the crack is too narrow, the sun can only cast a ray of light. In that narrow space, not to mention Alan, probably even Lucy herself is difficult to climb out. At this time, the male wolf was already drilling inside. Even though the mountain crevice was not wide, it was still more than enough for a violent wolf to get in.

Allen knew that he couldn't let the wolves enter the cave, or he and Lucy would really become food under the wolf's kiss. He lifted up his tactical long knife, and immediately stabbed into the eyes of the wolf like black lightning. The wolf suffered pain, which intensified its ferocity, and opened its claws to shoot at Allen. Alan avoided his head and face, and used his light armor to take a claw from it. Chest armor to the wolf claws scratched sparks scattered, Allen took advantage of this time, the long knife twisted and flicked, directly prying down the small half of its head!

The wolf's blood spurted, Allen didn't bother to wipe it off, another riot wolf had already burrowed in. At the end of the knife raised, the gunshot sounded behind him, the storm wolf's head opened up, but it had already been terminated for Lucy. Allen nodded, left hand long knife right hand berserk butcher, guarding the entrance against the attack of the wolves. Lucy, on the other hand, was firing cold shots from behind, her gun skills were precise and ruthless, almost bulletproof, always able to accurately hit the eyes or ears of the riotous wolves, which were relatively fragile, thus killing them with a single blow.

Allen, on the other hand, raised both of his swords, not retreating an inch to defend this fragile position. His thin body was like a light boat on the angry sea, but no matter how fast the wind and waves were, the light boat could always turn danger into safety. In the blink of an eye, Allen had already turned into a bloody man, with Storm Wolf's blood and his own. By this time, even how to get injured and which part of the body to choose to get injured was a learning curve. If it wasn't for the fact that he was rewarded with this light armor defense suit because of his top ranking, now even if he was more calculating, he would have fallen under the claws of the wolf long ago.

More and more wolf carcasses were accumulating in the mountain crevice, which made it difficult for the wolves at the back to attack again. But these dangerous species were not only fierce, they were also smart. As the mountain crevice gave way to carcasses, violent wolves began to drag the corpses of their kind outward, pounding on that fragile line of defense again. Every minute was a long one for Allen, and gradually, he killed his way out. The wildness within his body was being stirred up by this endless attack of the storm wolves, and Allen's eyes were getting redder and redder.

In the end, he didn't even try to deliberately avoid the attacks. When the Storm Wolf gave him a claw, Alan returned the favor.

Offense against offense, kill against kill!

When there was a sound, the military tactical long knife snapped raw in the skull of a gray-furred storm wolf. Allen kicked away the wolf carcass, and the broken knife was thrown and stuck into the eye of a black wolf behind him. With a broken cry, he raised his Mad Butcher, the blade's patterns activating one by one. Energy blades popped out from the end of the blade and chopped into the head of this black wolf with force, the sharp energy blade cutting its head in two.

At this time, Allen's hand softened, and the energy sharp blade disappeared. The patterns on the blade dimmed again, and Alan's physical energy was exhausted, no longer able to hold the Berserker. With a bang, the Berserker fell to the ground, and Alan sat on his butt. Looked at Lucy, behind the ammunition has been exhausted, is touching out a dagger ready to kill. Both of them smiled bitterly and prepared for the wolves to drive in.

Meanwhile, just outside the cave on the other side of the crag, Metallon reached back and gripped a thick-backed greatsword behind his back. The wolves were attacking, and he could see that Allen and his men were at the end of their rope. Though if he made a move, it would inevitably lead to some "international disputes", but how could he care about that now? However, he was also surprised by the kid's tenacity and ruthlessness as he was able to support Alan for nearly an hour.

Just as Metallon was about to strike, the wolves seemed to receive new orders, and one Stormwolf reluctantly retreated, leaving a trail of wolf carcasses beyond the mountain crevice, and moments later both were gone clean.

Barely able to get on top of the wolf carcass and look out, Alan was relieved to see the wolves retreating. His eyes went black, and he was close to fainting. But in this place of crisis, how could he let himself do so. So he bit the tip of his tongue and used the sharp pain to keep himself awake.

"Sit down." Lucy helped him sit down against the rock wall of the cave, then carefully removed the defensive light armor he was wearing.

Lucy let out a cold breath when the close-fitting tactical suit came off as well. Alan was bruised and battered, his small body crisscrossed with more wounds than he could count. Many of them had been torn out by the claws of the storm wolves, and a few had been bites that had torn off small pieces of skin and blood. Lucy took a deep breath and nimbly pulled out the tight rescue medicine from Alan's traveling bag and began to clean his wounds.

Seeing Lucy's methodical movements, Allen was a bit surprised. If it were an ordinary girl, I'm afraid she would have cried in fear when she saw him with this injury. However, Lucy's hands were very stable, using the fastest speed to clean, stop the bleeding and sew up the serious wounds. The faster she was, the less Allen would suffer. Fortunately, what Alan took away at that time was the immediate rescue medication, which even included a set of simple field surgery tools, otherwise Lucy really had no way to save.

It was more than an hour later when it was time to finish treating Allen's body of wounds, and Lucy's hands were finally shaking as she finished the last of his stitches, her physical energy drained clean out of her. She barely managed to put on Allen's tunic and sat down next to him as well, saying, "I can't really see that you people can be so crazy when you put your life on the line."

"You can't live if you're not crazy." Alan said with his eyes closed.

He knew Lucy wouldn't understand; Alan wasn't very old, but had been through far more than anyone his age could imagine. In the past five years, many times it had required a mad scramble to survive. Living with the snow wolves could not be described as easy, Alan was raised by White Fang as if he were a young wolf. And in a wolf pack, young wolves also need to hunt, and there are times when they face strong enemies alone.

If they can't survive, they will be abandoned by the wolves, and this is supposed to be a world of selection.
