The snake

On the weekend I spend a lot of time reading pregnancy books, knitting baby socks and hats from a tutorial I found online, and searching for a bunch of baby toys on Amazon.

I’ve got the baby fever bad.

“Hey Ace, do you think I should have an at-home birth?”

Ace has been concentrated on a video game for an hour trying to beat his highest score, but as soon as I ask that question he pauses the game and gives me a concerned look.

“You wanna give birth here? But we don’t have any of the drugs the doctors would give you. I don’t know too much about pregnancy other than it’s probably the most painful thing you will ever experience.”

Correction, losing him, the baby, or my family would be the most painful thing, but I don’t wanna darken his mood.

“I wanna do it. And yes it’s going to hurt, but... but you will be there with me so it’s going to be fine. Right?”

He smiles warmly and stands up to press his lips softly to mine.
