I need to make a sound to get the horde to at least look outside, even if I put the radio at a good enough distance, it doesn't make enough sound to lure them all.
Maybe an explosion or a gunshot would do. Fireworks could work, but I don't remember seeing any.
-"Lana!"
From rooms away, she answered, shouting.
"What?"
-"Did you see some fireworks or firecrackers?"
"No sorry!"
Hmm, too bad maybe I can get the gunpowder out of a cartridge and make something like a grenade, or maybe a Molotov, as I already have everything I need? No, the Molotov could burn the entire city with how packed the city is.
I can put some gunpowder in something like a can or a mug and then we shoot at it.
I get up from my desk and go to the living room, where Lana is lying on the couch.
-"How well can you shoot?"
"I shoot well, why?"
-"I intend to launch gunpowder 10 meters away from the main entrance, and I want you to shoot at it with your gun. Will you be able to?"
"It should be doable."
-"Ok, I will try to get the gunpowder."
I looked up a magazine for gun enthusiasts.
On rounds or ammunition, there are multiple parts:
The bullet is the projectile that will be launched. Then there is the cartridge's case, which holds everything together. In the case there is gunpowder that explodes due to the primer, it'll ignite the said powder.
So, to get the gunpowder, I need to get the bullet out of the case carefully.
It seems a tool exists to remove bullets, but I don't have one, so I'll use pliers instead.
I got to the 10th floor and fetched a pliers I had previously seen there.
I stayed on this floor and sat on one of the chairs around the kitchen table.
I took out 3 cartridges to disassemble.
I took one in my left hand and grabbed the bullet with the pliers with cold sweat on my forehead. I pulled the bullet while rotating it until I finally managed to pull it out. Then I put the gunpowder in an empty mug.
I repeated this two more times, but I thought it wasn't enough, so I took two more for a total of five and carefully dismantled them.
-"This will be enough."
I closed the mug with tape; it wouldn't matter even if it broke as the worst case would be an explosion, which is our goal.
Feeling satisfied, I got to where Lana was on the 14th-floor terrace working out.
-"I succeeded look!"
I showed her the mug, and she had a questioning face.
"That's a pretty mug, sure."
-"Not the mug! Inside, I put some gunpowder. This will be your target; can you hit it?"
"That's no problem, just say when, and I'll do it."

Before we departed we finished the food and water we couldn't pack as it would be too much of a waste.
I spent all my time reading. Whenever I read something, I can quickly absorb knowledge, so I spend my time wisely by reading all the Books in the building. I found some physics and chemistry manuals and entertainment Books that I skipped for the more interesting ones, like the ones I found in an aspiring doctor's room.
I learned many other things that may or may not be useful.
Lana focused on working out; it seemed she liked it, or maybe she didn't find anything else to do.

Day 22:
In our backpack, we each had 5 days worth of food and water, our guns, and respectively 20 ammo for me and 25 for Lana, and a roll of toilet paper each.
We also had each a map Of the region, and I had some books still unread about the Spanish language. Some survivalist magazines I took showed how to start a fire and make a fishing rod, a bow, and arrows.
We each had our pocket knife.
After thoroughly checking the backpack, we departed to the 2nd floor.
It was 13:38;
I got to the window with a viewpoint on the back door while Lana went to the terrace.
I looked down and found only three zombies below. I turned on the radio and made it slide down the outer wall.
The zombies were attracted to the sound and went beyond the trash bin.
Then I heard a gunshot and, almost at the same time, a loud explosion.
**On the terrace**
I prepared myself and launched the mug, which crashed on the ground; the sound attracted some zombies that were in the street.
I took my gun and aimed at the gunpowder.
I breathed to calm down my Heart, and I fired.
A gunshot sound resounded, followed by a terrifying explosion mixed with the sound of breaking asphalt and falling debris.
I ran to the door and found Alex waiting for me with their hand on the doorknob.
**
Just before she arrived, I opened the door and I dived into the hallway slowly and stealthily; I looked back at Lana, and we nodded at each other, meaning "Mission accomplished."
We heard a ruckus bellow with a lot of footsteps getting farther away from us
That was good news!
Lana peeked and then opened the door very slowly; all of the zombies were on the right going outside, and the path to the backdoor was open. We were stealthily but quickly went to the backdoor.
Lana opened the door and went out first.
I followed and checked beyond the trash bin; the zombies were scratching and growling at the wall with their falling skin and completely ignoring us.
We went to the opposite side and engulfed ourselves in the back alleys. We advanced by walking in haste.
We turned at a corner and in front 2 zombies. Lana was in front; she kicked one in the chest and flung her bat at the second, who died with its jaw completely disappeared, with the exception of some pièce still on the bat, I passed by her and kicked the second zombie's knee, who bent in the opposite direction with a bone cracking sound.
It fell forward, and I swung my bar upward through its head.
We took a breath and continued with me at the front this Time.

Two hours later, we were in a little parking on the outskirts of the city, which was barely used as there was no point of interest nearby.
There were three zombies in the parking, but we took care of them easily as they weren't packed.
There were about ten cars, including a minivan, which was our favorite out of them all, but it was closed.
We searched for the vehicle, and four were open. We looted them and siphoned fuel with all the jerrycan we could find.
We settled for a pretty long old blue car with a wide trunk. It was the only vehicle with a key in the glove box, so it wasn't that much of a choice.
We put our backpacks on the back seats, and Lana sat on the driver's seat while I sat next to her.
She turned the key, and the engine made a strange sound, which quickly subsided.
Lana tried again and the engine made a satisfying roar.
"Ok, let's go to Vastol."
**An hour later**
We listened to music with the CD we had collected in the car.
The ride was quite comfortable as the car almost didn't shake, contrary to my expectations.
We could see a lot of zombies through the windows; it filled me with profound loneliness as I watched them deambulate aimlessly.
At this point, we were already in the countryside, but we were still 2 hours away from our goal.
**2 hours later**
We saw a sign with Vastol written on it.
I slept for most of the drive, but Lana was quite tired, so before going into the village of about 2000 inhabitants we decided to take a break in the car to eat. Our goal was this village because it's the most isolated one as the closest village is 50 km away.
We parked 200 meters away from the first house just to be safe and started to eat.
We could see zombies roaming, but it was way less than in Casanhaba, where we lived.
