Diary of the mentor ch7 My student pt3.

"Haa....Haa!". Grasping for air on the ground, I felt a deep and painful throb in my chest. It was painful so painful I felt my heart wanted to burst from my chest. I was scared. I just just copied want the red haired lady had done hours ago. I just wanted to prove my worth. I just wanted a home. I had given it my all and at the end my body failed me just like with my sister and just like now. Why...why did I lose the sensation on my legs, I was this close to winning. I was this close to proving my worth but I just had to trip. I had just to fall.

I don't want to go back.

I hate the slums

I'm scared to go back.

If only I could use my mimicry well.

"Hey!"

Annoying,I thought as that voice interrupted my thoughts again.

Ignoring her for the second time I stared at the night sky filled to the brim with stars. "Luna..what should I do?"

I throw those question at the stars who where remiscant of my sister.

If only that girl hadn't be so strong.

"Hey! are you alright!"

Alicia as she was called appeared above my head blocking my view of the stars. Her eye expression concern but honestly she needed it the most.

She was bleeding on the side of her face. The wound was small but still it must hurt.

As a vampire I found her blood enticing but the queen had long disciplined me to not drank the blood of anyone but her's.

Avoiding her gaze to not be tempted by her blood I found the familiar red haired woman, Vana and stared at her with an apologetic expression.

At the end of it all she had saved me and produced a chance for me to save myself but I ended up failing and was now going to live on the streets.

Thinking about it now I should have just maintenance my placed with the queen. Sure she was harsh and cruel but she provided me a place to stay and maybe she wouldn't also have killed No-name. Now Maria was going to leave the first of her live without her brother.

"Hellooo..."

As I gazed at Vana with a dejected expression, Alicia continued to try and gain my attention.

Her persistence reminded me of my sister and while my time spent with her was short I knew oif she was currently in Alicia position she wouldnt have stopped trying to brother me so resigning myself to my fate I sigh and turn to her.

"Are you alright?" She asked again noticing wa was finally listening.

I nobbed my throat still dry.

"That good." She smiled and gently took my arm to try and raise me up.

I shook my head indicating I couldn't walk. At first she was confused but after I pointed at my legs she finally understood.

"Just let him rest."

Vana who seem to have finally come to her sense approached.

-----------------

"You're surprisingly good with the spear!". Making a sarcastic remark I sat on the ground next to the boy and took the ice spear of his grip.

"Alicia go check on your sister!" I requested. We both where shocked by what we saw no but it especially hit her hard since she could never learn to use the spear.

Alicia give me a childish nob and walked towards Frey who currently sat on the staird of the back door as she blankly stared in the distance.

After Alicia left I desolved the ice construct into mist and glance down at the body. "How did you do that?"

I decided to be straight forward.

It wasn't just that he was good with the spear but also because each and everyone of the moveset he had used against Alicia was the same one I had used in my fight against the spider queen.

His attack whiles less focused where copied down to the faintest of details. Even the fighting God of Hosu couldn't perfectly emulate the moveset of other and this kid had done just that.

It was absurd and I could only think of one possiblity.

"It's my affinity." He answered.

"Noticed." I nobbed.

Affinities were sort of special benefit one gains as a sign of being an awakeners. Every affinity holder had the potential to become an awakener but not all awakeners had affinities and example being me.

Anyway they weren't quite like unquie skills in novel or games since they where more akin to character passives in video games.

An example will be of a certain knight in Avalon who grew stronger during the day or the night vision that most vampires inherit. In other words some are extremely busted while others are mid as in modern terms for It's ok at best.

But in this world almost everything had a price and affinities where no different. They came with them something called a defect, a flaw or even a disadvantage. Just like I said a certain knight could grow stronger during the day as a price for such a boast in power his strength is reduced a lot during the night.

Judging by how perfectly the boy had mimic my moveset I presumed his affinty was a sort of copy cat, its primarily form of copy being fight styling.

Going by his pained expression and his inability to currently walk, I also presumed the copycat heavy strains his body.

"So how long have you had you affinity?" I inquired.

I was born with it."

His tone was much clearer than before so I couldn't help but noticed how dejected and depressed it sounded.

"Well it's a cool affinity!" I remarked and smilled.

His eye grew shaky a bit as strings of tears fell down his cheeks.

"What wrong?" I asked a bit concerned. "Sniff....it just...." His tried wiping away his tear with his clothing but the more he did the more tears fell.

"It's just... sniff....my sister used to say that a lot."

"Oh..."

It seems my compliment made him a bit nostalgic, I thought.

Children whiles easily adaptive to change where extremely sensitive, it was a life I learnt that day as I watched dtye boy burst into tears.

-----------------

"So what do you say....will you take him?". My shoulder tensed I as threw that question at Frey.

Frey was kind, I knew that more than anyone but still I couldn't help considered the possibility of her not agreeing after all I was asking her to take in an unknown child and a vampire at that.

Prejudice against vampire and most demi human had died hundreds of years ago but humans stilled feared.

Frey noticing my nervous sighed and stared blankly at the child current sleeping on my laps.

It was time like this when his vampiric beauty along with his child like innocence revealed itself in its full glory.

The bangs of his unkept white hair hid his eyes but based on the breath frey knew he was asleep.

"I'll take him." Frey replied.

Hearing her words my shoulder relaxed before I let out a deep breath.

"...but I have a question?" She turned to me a stared at me with a complicated expression.

"Go on." I said.

"What don't you want to take him?"

Her question was expected as I grinned and replied.

"Came on Frey, I can hardly take care of myself what more add a child to my life.". "Ok!" She replied but I could see she wasn't convinced.

Whether she believed me or not didn't matter I was just glad I finally did something good in this short life of my.
