High in the sky another battle was raging on. This was probably the one that the Angels dominated the most, all due to the existence of a single Angel of Death who slaughtered through the enemies.
Of course the power difference was similar to the battle below them, but each Angel there had to face over a hundred enemies. With the total enemies being only 250 up here, it was basically a walk in the park for the Saint.
The normal Angels chose a different formation than the ones below them. They weren't outnumbered as badly after all so they wouldn't really have to worry about being surrounded.
They arranged theirself just like the nodes of an array, which basically made them an angelic formation. They were able to channel energy towards each other and the way the formation worked, their attacks would even be boosted by the surrounding spiritual energy.
Each Angel confronted two enemies head-on, whilst the Archangel in the middle made sure no one stepped out of formation. Whenever an Angel was about to be hit by an attack, she would summon a light sword and attack the goblin who would be caught off-guard and probably take at least a severe injury.
Instead of fighting with the help of condensed lightswords, they would coat their physical swords with flames. After all that was another of their affinities. Though they had a higher affinity with the light element, fire had a higher destructive power.
The fire they used was also special. Due to the Angels' affinity with the holy attribute, their flame turned into a Holy Flame, which could even be considered a special ability for other species.
This Holy Flame had a few special effects. One of them was that it countered beings who were considered evil or had an affinity with the darkness or other similar attributes like evil, unholy or death. Sadly this wasn't very effective against goblins since, even though they were indeed pretty evil and bloodthirsty, they were still considered as part of the „good faction".
Luckily the flame also had another special ability which was pretty simple: It burned fucking hot. Depending on the quality and quantity of spiritual energy used when creating a flame, its attributes would differ. If you used more energy the flame would get bigger. If you used more highly concentrated energy, then the flame would burn more intensely.
The special thing about the Holy Flame was that even with the same quality of spiritual energy used, it would burn 10 times hotter than a normal flame. This difference would increase with higher cultivation, but for now it meant that everything that was touched by the swords of the Angels would either melt, if it was a weapon, or burn to ashes in the case of the goblins themselves.
The goblins had to use enormous amounts of spiritual energy to offset the effect of the flame, but you could only channel so much spiritual energy through your meridians without breaking them. This meant that they didn't really have any capacity to counterattack and were left on the defending side. From time to time some of them would be killed.
But 100 Angels who were each wielding blinding white flames wasn't even the worst thing to happen to the goblins.
At the moment the two sides clashed, one Angel who had dark wings left the formation. At first the goblins thought he was easy prey, but they couldn't be more wrong.
As the first goblins surrounded the Angel and started attacking him with the help of earth shards they conjured as well as spiritual energy infused swords, they were stunned and horrified.
As soon as the attacks and weapons got within 10 meters of the Angel, they would start to crumble and decay, eventually vanishing at least 2 meters away from him. Goblins who entered this area could feel their body starting to rot as it turned black in the parts where it was exposed to this aura.
This aura field was an ability the Angel of Death comprehended after understanding Death Intent. The intent was good at killing as well as decay and was very lethal. The goblins who touched the aura had to use at least 50% of their spiritual energy to stop the death intent from spreading further through their bodies and taking their lifes. And this was an ability that barely cost him a thousandth of his energy to use.
As the Death Angel was content with the fear he had inflicted into his enemies he suddenly vanished. This wasn't really a special ability, it was just the speed that he gained upon entering the Sea Expansion Realm.
In this way he moved around the battlefield, slashing through swords and body parts that didn't have the ability to resist his attacks at all. They were cut through as if made of paper.
The worst part was that each of the slashes was lethal. Even the aura that just contained a tiny part of his intent was so dangerous for the goblins. If he inflicted a real wound on them, then the amount of intent that entered was enough to kill them within seconds. They had no ability to resist as they felt their life energy drain away and turned into corpses.
The Angel of Death's target stood at the back of the opposing army. It was the several kings who led the armies. If they died the fighting spirit of the soldiers would quickly plummet and they would be like lambs before the butcher.
On the way there he obviously wouldn't mind taking out a few additional goblins. It didn't really take any effort on his part and would make the work much easier for his fellow Angels. Whilst flying through the quickly collapsing enemy formation with a speed of thousands of meters per second, he took out at least 20 goblins simply by slashing around himself. They had no ability to stop his sword coated by Death Intent.
Finally the Saint stood before the kings, who were noticeable through their primitive crowns. „Evil heretics, how dare you lead your filthy army to covet the territory possessed by our Lord Creator. For your sins you will have to die!"
