Monday morning dawned all too soon. Valerie's small family stirred to life earlier than usual, all excited and nervous. Valerie didn't know how her grandmother would feel about Ruby. Suddenly dropping the child at her place without prior notice felt strange, but she had no choice. The two must bond anyway.
While she got herself and Ruby ready, Greg was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Soon, the family of three had a quick breakfast before they all departed.
Greg went to work while Valerie took her child to her grandma's place.
Old Madam Wright was already aware of Ruby's existence, but she chose to feign ignorance, playing along with the charade. With a masterful performance, she pretended to be oblivious, her eyes widening in surprise as if discovering a long-hidden secret. Her act was convincing, as if she had done this a lot.
