The priest’s voice was grim. "Because they defy the gods. They summon horrors that devour worlds. It is not just power—it is corruption given form."  

A student hesitated. "But could one not use that power for—"  

“Silence!” The priest’s eyes burned with fervor. “There is no redemption for a summoner. And now, they speak of the worst of them all—a Summoner of Shadows. A heretic who will plunge the world into eternal darkness. He is the epitome of evil, and when he rises, he will destroy us all.”

It struck the ground after its head exploded. Cedric shook his hand to throw away the blood tainting it before taking out a towel and wiping it. The monster twitched.

Cedric sighed as he looked at the poor monster, whose corpse began being carried by shadows toward the lab. It was the morning of the third day, and he was still nowhere near his target of one hundred monsters per day.

There were eight days remaining before the third and final round. Cedric needed to achieve two objectives: curing Alde and evolving his physique. If he could not evolve his physique before then, he would be far from strong enough to kill Tristan.
