Chapter 157: The Comfort of Each Other

My parents don't answer my knock on their suite door. Waiting for several moments, i debate using my master key. But I'd probably scare my parents, who might mistake me for a Mothman or other intruder. Anything is possible around here.

I turn to Daji. "I guess it can wait until the morning."

The words "I told you so" don't come out of her mouth. What a woman. Her response is to to take my arm and escort me back to our suite.

When we're nestled together back in our bed, I nuzzle Daji. "You were right."

"They're exhausted. I'm surprised you aren't. You went through the emotional wringer."

I sigh, holding her soft body in my arms. "I guess I'm wound up."

"And I'm not? We wondered what happened. But we couldn't just say that the Consortium killed them without proof--and there was none to be had." Daji's voice quivers. "They erased their tracks thoroughly."
