Arc 1

Ye Jin was shocked. She was in a novel, at least that's what she had gotten from the information the Heavenly Jade, or rather, GMS 005, had given to her. (Author's note: The Heavenly Jade will be referred to as GMS 005 from now on.)

She had read this kind of plot in various novels when she was still a teenager, but it happening to her was quite disorientating. She had thought that maybe she was reincarnated into another body in her world and that she could still contact her friends and father. But now, she couldn't meet them at all, or rather they did not exist at all in this world.

[Don't be surprised], GMS 005 said. [You were in a novel too, and your father was the main character, though it was meant to end in a tragedy where he loses everything, including you.]

Ye Jin felt her whole worldview turn upside down. Did that mean everything she did was predetermined? But things did not seem quite right. GMS 005 spoke like it was an outsider who was not part of her father's story, yet it played an important role in Ye Juan's life. So how did it know everything was a world of mere fiction when it was part of the fiction world?

[However,] GMS 005 continued, interrupting her flow of thoughts, [since I have gotten all the energy I need from your father, I have no use for you or your soul.]

Ye Jin asked, "What does that mean?"

[It means that you would have to earn your life, and if you are able to earn more than enough, you may choose to be reincarnated to your original world.]

"And how would I do that?" Ye Jin asked.

[You would have to perform every task given by me] GMS 005 replied.

"And if I don't do them?" Ye Jin questioned.

[I would take the life I gave you] GMS 005 answered.

Ye Jin fell into deep thought once again. Some things really weren't adding up, at least from what she remembered her father told her about the Heavenly Jade.

Or was he wrong?

Ye Jin titled her lips, forming a soft smile "Alright, what tasks do you have for me?"

[Your major task is to reform Gu Yan, though some side tasks may come along the way to push forward the accomplishment of the main task.]

"What?!" Ye Jin was shocked and distressed. This was because of the target of the reform.

Who was Gu Yan? He is the main villain of the novel "Thorns of Love," the world Ye Jin currently transmigrated into. The story was a face-slapping novel where the male lead, Nam Doha, rose from a weak illegitimate child to a powerhouse in the business world. Gu Yan was a notorious high school bully who bullied Nam Doha in high school just for fun. This Gu Yan grew from a high school bully to the king of the underworld and head of the Tie Quan Gang. He was known for his cruelty, ruthlessness, and thirst for violence and blood. He had no regard for human life as he often killed people with a crazed smile on his face, a smile showing his perverted enjoyment for these deaths.

When this crazy psychopath discovered the male lead, who used to be his cute, obedient toy in high school, had become a force to be reckoned with in the business world, out of boredom he became a pain to the protagonist's ass. He was like an unkillable bug who did everything to frustrate the protagonist. From kidnapping the protagonist's family and friends and forcing them to steal information from the protagonist's company in exchange for their lives—information which he sold to the protagonist's rivals—to planting bombs in the protagonist's company, telling the protagonist that he would press the trigger button unless the protagonist barked like a dog on national television, the bombs were later found to be fake. Finally, on the protagonist's wedding to the female lead, Gu Yan crashed the wedding by turning it into a death game, trapping all the guests in the building without food, water, or internet connection, forcing them to turn to cannibalism. By the time the protagonist, the female protagonist, and a few other guests were able to escape, Gu Yan had disappeared, his presence was as if he never existed. That Gu Yan was truly a madman, only doing things for his amusement.

But the real problem lay in the fact that she was by no means a good person. So how was she supposed to reform a villain, a crazy one at that? She was no Mother Theresa, and she could definitely not use the method her father taught her or Gu Yan may become crazier.

"This doesn't make any sense," Ye Jin internally screamed. "I am doomed, I am definitely going to die."

[Don't worry, Host, you can definitely do it,] GMS 005 said, trying to comfort Ye Jin. It felt a bit guilty.

Ye Jin ignored GMS 005. What was the use of its words of comfort? It was definitely not going to help. "How do you expect me to reform that crazy man? At least the one who gave me the mission should have a strategy to resolve it."

Ye Jin's expectations were shattered as GMS 005 uttered the words, [No, I don't have a certain strategy.]

Ye Jin really was in a dilemma. She had to reform a villain. How could she do it? It's not like she was a good person or an angel. Besides, Gu Yan's psychopathic behavior was not a result of nurture but rather nature. Though he was raised in a family that dealt with the underworld, as the youngest child, his parents made sure he was not exposed to the dark side of the family's way of life, wishing he would live his life as a rich second generation. But how could Gu Yan, who had longed for the feeling of taking a life and was extremely bored with his life, agree with this? When Gu Yan turned sixteen, he willingly met his dad and basically forced him to allow him to join the family business. After much persuasion, his father agreed, especially seeing he had a niche for that way of life.

From when Gu Yan was still a young child, he had always been eccentric, often putting pins in the servants' beds so that they would be in pain. At times, he would put dead animals and bugs in his friends' bags just to see them scream in fear. That expression of fear and pain always excited him. Why? Because he was bored, a bored psychopath who hardly felt anything but sought to feel something.

[Host, you keep calling him a psychopath, but aren't you one yourself?] GMS 005 asked, its voice though mechanical, showed a hint of innocence and curiosity. It had gone through its host's data and she was by no means a normal human.

Ye Jin gasped, feigning sadness. "Ahh, how could you say that, are you trying to say I am a psychopath?!"

[No Host...but…] GMS 005 decided that keeping silent may be the best course of action. Sometimes it was not good to probe a person.
