Astrid

A knife could cut through the tension in the air as my sister and I glared at each other.

"You are not wanted here!" she sneered acidly. Even though her words stung, I didn't show it.

"Well, you are not the Alpha of Westwood, so you have no authority over who comes in or goes out!"

"I see marriage has made you arrogant, Astrid…"

"No," I replied flatly, "marriage restored my self-worth! Something you clearly lack, since you keep trying to pull me down to feel better about your miserable self!"

"Do not use those words with your sister, Astrid!" my mother snapped, and I scoffed, eyeing her steadily.

"I'm afraid you've lost the right to tell me what to do, Mother. I'm a married woman now."

Her eyes widened with rage, and her fingers curled into trembling fists beside her. "You ungrateful brat! You will not speak to me like that!"
