CHAPTER 9: Tired
Afternoon came so fast and the village population of 19 were rowdy as they all packed thier belonging to leave. Mona didn't want to leave so she didn't pack, it was because her father insisted on staying behind to fight, giving the rest enough time to escape.
Soon the weapons Linurk asked for finally arrived as the 2 misfit Arjurd and Enon packed the spares in bundles from Arjurd place of solitude to Linurk, while the others trained for the attack. The spares that the warriors didn't find attractive to them were returned to back to Arjurd, who used it to design his traps.
The traps were ready by late noon, because he had help from Enon who stayed behind by choice to die. Even if he and Arjurd decide to go with the rest, there is no life for them apart from rejection, depression and solitude.
(While everything took place)
Mona was in her fathers hut. They got into an argument as she tried to convince her father on why she should stay. So far she gave completely stupid and pointless reasons on why she wanted to stay.
"That's enough Mona" He yelled,
"But father............"
He cuts in,
"I don't want to hear anymore of your excuses" The Clan Chief yelled,
"Do you think this is a game" He yelled,
"But why can't we go together" She asked,
Before her father could reply,
"We dont have to sacrifice thier lives and you don't have to sacrifice yours" She yelled,
"WE ARE TIRED OF RUNNING MONA" He yells, silencing her.
"Anywhere we go there'll follow us and hunt us down, this isn't survival there hunting us down" He said,
"They wont stop until we are all dead"
"I.....I...don't want to loose you too"
Mona yelled nearly able to control her emotions. The thoughts of her losing her dad is scaring her,
"Mona my dear" He said, reaching for her hand and placed her's in his.
"I've lost your brother because I didn't get up to fight expecting h to always return each time he goes" He said,
"Nothing lasts forever"
"But ill feel a lot better knowing you are safe and far from harm" He said and Mona hugged him.
"I know Ridjurd would have wanted the same thing for you" He said caressing her back as she remained in his arms.
Then Mona spoke,
"But where is he now?"
"Dead" She answered her own question when her father stayed quiet and refused to answer.
"Brother Ridjurd made his choice to stay and die despite knowing how much we all needed him"
Mona said drawing away from her father,
"So why I'm I the only one who can't make a choice of my own"
She asked her father who stayed quiet as he stared into her eyes,
"Just like her mother" He said inwardly,
'I cant loose you too" He said in his mind.
"You are leaving and that's final"
He says with a dull tone in his voice and Mona wore a frown on her face,
Seeing her reaction,
"If you refuse I would have some warriors to accompany you on your journey and there'll take you there by any means necessary" He adds
Mona reasoned for a few seconds before giving up, turning around and leaving her father's hut with a sad look on her face.
"Goodbye" she said, knowing his never coming back.
After Mona left, the clan chief said to himself.
"Its for her own good"
"Dont worry my son,I'll see you soon" He whispered to before picking up a spare beside him ready to fight.
Then evening came, the evacuation was late but in the end they were all packed and gathered together as the chief stood before them,
"My people" He began,
"It has been an honour to lead you all till this very day, just know that as you all leave, you carry our legacy, our ambitions with you as well"
"We will not die and we shall live long in your hearts and after tonight, there shall be no more running,no more hiding, no more fighting and I hope for peace for you all as you go"
*MURMURING*
Hearts were moved by his goodbye speech, murmuring from the small crowd they all began to leave into a certain direction and they left with 3 warriors and with the men among them armed with spares for defense.
Soon they were all gone,
The chief turned to one warrior,
"Mona did she go with them" The clan chief stepped forward and asked one of the warriors.
"Yes she did"
Answers the warriors, clearly remembering seeing her face in the crowd.
Enon and Arjurd stood still as they stared blankly at the warriors and chief with a dull, bored and tired look on thier faces.
Suddenly out if the blue, Arjurd turned and began to leave. Enon was confused by his exit but he knew whatever Arjurd wanted to do was none of his business so he stayed quiet.
*************
Arjurd continued walking not looking back with a blank expression on his face as he made his way through the forest to his hut.
In a matter if minutes, he got to his hut. Hearing sounds from inside his hut, he realised something was wrong, something has infiltrated his home.
He picked up a spare on the floor, part of the numerous spares the warriors discarded.
He crept closer and closer to his hut slowly and carefully as he raised his spear ready to attack. Immediately he opened the curtain at the entrance and he himself was shocked by what he saw going through his things.
