Chapter 17

“Stupid! Do you think you can fool that girl like you always did? Can’t you see that she has changed?” her mother said as she walked out of the kitchen.

“Mom, how can you say that?” Kaylee asked as she pouted since she felt wronged when her mother called her that.

“What? Go back to your room, your mother will call you down for dinner later,” Mr Clark said coldly before taking the newspaper from the table and reading it.

“Dad,” Kaylee called out she was met with a pair of cold eyes making her swallow back the words that she wanted to say.

When Aaron arrived home, he was welcomed by a cup being thrown towards him taking him by surprise.

He looked ahead with a cautious posture as he knew that only his father and grandparents had the guts to do such a thing.

Remembering what had happened that day, he didn’t dare breathe as he knew that as long as he walked farther, he might be doomed.

“Grandpa,” he greeted politely as even a smile couldn’t form on his face due to fear.

“Do you know how much damage you have done to us because of that woman?” the old man asked with a displeased expression.

Aaron didn’t say anything as he knew that he couldn’t give him a satisfactory answer.

“You filthy bastard! You can’t even answer my question! I was so blind in the past to listen to your father and your pleas to give the marriage contract between the Clarks and you a chance instead of your elder brother! If it was your elder brother, he would never have shamed our family the same way you did today!” the old man continued.

“Truly, a son bore from a mistress will behave like the mother. A son born from a cheating man will also be a cheating man when he grows up!” an old woman said calmly but her eyes seemed to show how displeased she was.

She sighed when she saw the scene in front of her.

When they found out that her son had cheated on his wife and gave birth to a son outside, they were shocked at the same time displeased.

They felt that bringing the boy back was bringing shame and that their legitimate grandchildren would feel threatened by the boy but after their son pleaded with them that if they gave the boy the marriage contract, the illegitimate son would not cause trouble at home thus they reluctantly agreed. Although it caused a drift between the grandparents and their other grandchildren, they had always thought that they were securing their future thus they didn’t mind so much.

After Aaron was brought back, he behaved like an obedient child and got along with the elders well. Afterwards, he was able to win Rhiannon’s heart and that made the two old people very pleased thus they gave him a chance to prove himself in the company but now, they wondered whether everything he had done in the past had a hidden agenda.

Seeing their faces, Aoron started panicking as he knew that from that day, his position in his grandparent's hearts who doted on him would be lower than his siblings and cousins.

“Grandpa, grandma, please forgive me! I did what I did because of temptation,” he said as he knelt to show how sincere he was.

“Temptation? Hahaha. If you can leave your fiancée because you are tempted to sleep with Kaylee or tempted to get everything Rhiannon had behind her, doesn’t that mean that you are just a materialist man who can do anything and everything to get whatever he wants?” a young man asked as he walked downstairs.

Seeing the man, Aaron’s face darkened as he cursed the man inwardly for having to show up at the moment.

“Eldest brother, how can you say that?” Aaron asked as he pretended to be wrong only to cause the young man to sneer when he saw that.

“How can you say that? Do you want to defend yourself by saying that Kaylee had drugged you when you were sleeping with or? Or did she drug you to accompany her to both press conferences? Although our grandparents are old, they aren’t stupid to see how things are clearly,” the man said coldly.

This left Aaron speechless as he wondered whether the man could read what was in his mind.

The two old people were watching the scene in front of them and the more they listened and saw, the more they got displeased with Aaron.

“Grandpa, don’t you think that dad brought a wolf hiding itself as a sheep?” the man asked as he glanced at his grandfather.

“Nonsense! How can you say that about your brother? He has been so good to you all but you guys never gave him a chance to get close to you. Since he was a child, he has always been alone and now you dare say that? If he was, then why did he suggest that the marriage contract should be given to him instead of you so that he can’t cause trouble?” their father asked angrily as he was so mad at what he had had about his favorite son.

“Been alone? What about my family? His mother and he destroyed our happy family! Since he came, when have we been happy? Also, it’s quite simple why he had proposed such a thing. It was because he knew that Sabrina left a lot of properties to Rhiannon thus to him, he would get married to Rhiannon and then use the money given to him by the wife to win Grandpa’s heart. That way, it would be easy for him to inherit the family business,” the eldest son said calmly but it shocked everyone including Aaron.

Aaron was shocked and then started panicking not knowing that some people had been looking at him and their eyes never left.

“Grandpa, grandma, that’s not true. It seems that eldest brother misunderstood my good intentions,” he hurriedly defended himself.

“Pfft. Do you take us as fools? We can see that you are panicking after hearing eldest brother’s words,” a young lady’s voice sounded making Aaron glare at her as he wondered why the siblings couldn’t let him be.

He couldn’t understand why they didn’t remain silent and let him have his way as they always did. He felt that there was something wrong but couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong.

“You ingrates! How can you say that about your brother?” their father asked as he felt that the kids wanted to send him six feet under.

“Why? If it was my eldest brother, would you be defending him the same way you are defending the bastard dad? You are saying that we should all be equal but have you ever treated us equally? Everything good in your hands you always hand it to him. We, on the other hand, have never received anything good even on our birthdays. It was any of my brothers who had such a thing, you would have already punished them,” the lady answered coldly as she did like the way her father was behaving.

“Is this how you talk to your elders? Don’t you know how you speak when talking to me?” her asked angrily as he couldn’t believe it.

The lady glanced at him and didn’t say anything; she didn’t want it to be said that she was an unfilial daughter who only knew how to argue with her father.

“That’s enough! Everything the two kids have said is true! I was blinded back then when I gave you the chance and even welcomed you here,” the old woman said when she saw the way her precious granddaughter was being treated.

“Mother! Don’t mother me as I don’t have cheating scumbags like my son and grandson. My dear, why can’t you send him out of here? After all, he is just a bastard,” the old woman asked.

The old man glanced at her but didn’t say anything as he found it too hard to believe that Aaron had planned everything years back. Although he didn’t plan much or had never planned to kill Rhiannon previously, it could be seen that the eldest grandson was correct when he said he wanted to use Rhiannon to get everything.

With this thought, the old man frowned as his turned colder.

“Aaron, when I brought you back, I never intended to have you fight for the heir’s seat but you proved that you are a diligent, hardworking, and promising young man thus we gave you a position in the company to train and also prove yourself. I also thought of having you fight for the heir’s position but everything you’ve done in this work has disappointed me greatly and at the same time, reminded me that you are an illegitimate child thus you can never inherit the business. For this, I can tell you thank you for opening my eyes,” the old man said.

Aaron was shocked and felt pain as he knew that things would never be as simple to him as they had always been.

“Grandpa, I am sorry,” he said as he choked.

“Sorry? It is okay to say sorry and know that you regret but there is no way I will let my guard down again as you might ruin us completely. From today, your manager position has been provoked, you can never fight for the heir’s seat and also, you should leave the mansion immediately as you aren’t needed here. You should just come when summoned and when we are having a family banquet.”
