Half-Siblings (Kai)

As Kai walks away from Ms Allister and Marianne, he cannot help but chuckle to himself. It seems like young ladies no longer find him charismatic the way they used to when he was still a university student. 'Ah, just part and parcel of ageing in this unforgiving world,' he thinks, amused.

Since his dinner reservation is at six, he still has some time to kill. He decides to buy something for Mai, not because they are close but because they are the opposite of close. In other words, he feels obliged to bring a gift to the meeting.

Obviously, he does not have a good idea of what she likes and dislikes. He has some idea, of course, but nothing too detailed or specific. Luckily, she won't expect him to give her the perfect gift either.

They are not friends, but they are not strangers either. Neither are they enemies or acquaintances.

They are family, inevitably and invariably connected by blood and upbringing.
