Followed again

"You made another enemy today, Miss Lawrence," Kyrell said, once Dane left the office dejectedly.

"I already have a lot. Another one to the list will make no difference," Sienna replied, pressing her forehead lightly.

"Are you stressed? Do you want to rest for some time?" Kyrell asked, looking at her worriedly.

Sienna indeed looked tired. The day had been quite strenuous and she had dealt with a lot of matters.

"I wish. I still have work to complete." Sienna sighed, picking up the file before her. "I have a meeting tomorrow and I need to be prepared. This project was previously handled by Leah. So, I don't have much knowledge about it."

Kyrell noticed the small drift in her expression. But it was momentary. Sienna composed herself quickly.

Sienna drowned herself in work again and Kyrell didn't disturb her much, wishing her to finish her work early.

Finally, a few minutes before the clock struck 6, Sienna was done and leaned back in her chair, massaging her shoulders.

"Let's go."

Kyrell was waiting for her to say this and he stood up immediately.

"Miss Sienna, may I ask you a question?" Kyrell started, once they hit the road.

Sienna, who had her eyes closed, hummed softly.

Kyrell glanced at Sienna through the rearview mirror before returning to the road.

"It's a personal question. You may not answer if you wish."

"What is it, Mr. Winchester?" Sienna's eyes snapped open and she looked at him curiously.

"Have you ever tried to look for your biological parents?" Kyrell held his breath once the words left his life. It was a very sensitive question, one that could open some closed wounds. Yet, he wanted to learn what her stance was in this matter.

"No." Sienna was oddly calm. She was unaffected by his question. "I never thought of looking for them. I was happy with my family. Why would I look for my biological parents?"

"What if your parents look for you? Will you accept them?" Kyrell knew he was treading on a thin line. But he couldn't help but probe more into her thoughts.

"That's three questions now." Sienna pointed out with a chuckle.

"My bad." Kyrell didn't force her to answer his question, allowing silence to settle in the car.

While he focused on the road, Sienna looked out the window lost in thoughts. "I have never thought about it," she said after some time. "When I was young, I thought about them a few times. But as I grew older, I forgot I was adopted. My family never made me feel as if I was adopted. They accepted me the moment they saw me."

Sienna's tone turned melancholic at the end as she suppressed a sad smile.

Kyrell felt guilty all of a sudden for scratching her unhealed wounds. The timing wasn't right. The memory of her family's demise was still fresh.

'I should have waited,' he chastised himself silently.

"As for your other second," Sienna said after calming herself down. "I'm not sure. It depends. If they have a valid reason for leaving me, I might accept them. Otherwise, forget about it."

Kyrell nodded, not continuing the topic anymore.

"May I know what your hobbies are, Miss Lawrence?" Kyrell asked suddenly and Sienna was stunned by the change in the topic. She looked at him blankly for a few seconds before she burst out laughing.

"You're a smart man, Mr. Wincheter."

Although she didn't explain much, Kyrell understood why she said so.

"Born smart, Miss Lawrence."

"Yeah, right," Sienna scoffed, not in disgust but in mirth.

"Do you doubt my smartness?" Kyrell quirked his brows when he saw her dubious look.

"No, I don't" Sienna shook her head immediately. "You are a smart man. Otherwise, you wouldn't have been hired by me."

Kyrell narrowed his eyes when he noticed what she had done. "Are you praising me or yourself, Miss Lawrence?"

"What do you think?" Sienna didn't answer him directly and Kyrell's lips arched up when he noticed her mood had improved.

"I'll take it as you were praising me."

Sienna just chuckled in reply and shook her head.

Kyrell, who had been smiling, went serious all of a sudden and Sienna sensed the change in his emotions.

"Mr. Winchester, is something..."

"Sit tight, Miss Lawrence," Kyrell instructed and Sienna perceived what was happening from his grim expression.

"Are we being followed?"

Kyrell just hummed as he swerved the car, overtaking the vehicle ahead of them.

"They are relentless," Sienna remarked as she held onto her seat.

"They surely want you dead. It's a surprise they did nothing after you were discharged from the hospital."

"Are they near?"

"No. They are far away. Don't worry, Miss Lawrence. They'll not get to you," Kyrell assured, meeting her worried gaze through the rearview mirror. "I won't allow you to get injured again."

Sienna heard the resoluteness in his voice. Subconsciously, she placed all her trust in him. It was as if, with him around, nothing would ever happen to her.

"I'll inform Office Jenkins."

Sienna made the phone call immediately and conveyed the situation to the policeman right away. Like her, he too was shocked to see how persistent the people who wanted Sienna dead were.

"I'll investigate the matter, Miss Lawrence," Officer Jenkins said seriously. He knew Sienna didn't trust him or anyone else. She informed him of the matter without expecting any results. She had no faith in them or anybody for that matter.

Once the call ended, Sienna noticed they weren't taking the familiar route. She didn't know what path Kyrell was taking. Yet, she didn't question him, allowing the man to drive in peace.

After around twenty minutes of driving on an unfamiliar path, Kyrell finally returned to the main road. They were a few miles away from the Lawrence Estate.

"Did we ward them off?" Sienna queried once she noticed the familiar route.

"Yes, Miss Lawrence."

"That was quite efficient."

Kyrell smiled bleakly as he drove the car inside the estate before stopping at the door.

Frank was pacing back and forth in the living anxiously. The moment he saw Sienna return, he rushed to her immediately, concern evident in his eyes.

"Miss, are you alright?" The news about her being followed again had already reached Frank and he was stressed out of his mind.

"I'm fine, Frank. Don't worry."

"But..."

"Mr. Winchester will be staying in the main house starting today. Help him settle down. Also, show him where the gym is."

"Yes, Miss."

Sienna nodded before turning to Kyrell.

"I'll see you at the gym in thirty minutes, Mr. Winchester."

"Yes, Miss Lawrence."

With that, Sienna returned to her room while Frank helped Kyrell settle in one of the guest rooms.
