CHAPTER 37: CONFRONTATION 3 - A LIAR AND A MURDERER

Briar clutched her swollen cheek, tears streaming down her cheeks, choking as she said, "I know that I am not perfect. I am lowly and I will never be able to be on par with any of you. But why is it every time I must be the victim? Why are you treating me like the bad guy here? Didn't I explain to you that I didn't seduce or plotted against Logan? Do you think that I will be so bold to do something like that?" grievance could be heard in her tone.

Alice was so furious as she was accused of something that she didn't even talk about. What was Briar even talking about?

However, the fact that Briar was trying to run away from the real story, framing her by slapping herself so hard, a very cruel thing to do to oneself and on top of that from nowhere, start uttering nonsense like that. Did Briar think that she was a pushover?

Alice's eyes turned cold as she gazed at Briar from above as if she were looking at an ant and started retorting. "You were never worthy and won't be worthy of him. I don't know what you did, but I can assure you right now, no matter what you do. I will make sure that you pack your bags and leave my family alone. I will not let a murderer and a faker raise my nieces. Any whore from the street is much better than you!" her words were very piercing and hurtful to the ears.

Briar's tears streamed down her cheeks, stinging the cheeks that she had slapped well. Inwardly, she cursed herself, 'Why are they taking their time?' while maintaining a pitiful expression on her face.

"I ….. you, you are comparing me to a whore and a murderer? Alice, I know that you don't like me, but accusing me of murder is insane?" Briar aggrievedly complained as she looked at Alice.

Alice, seeing Briar bringing back the topic, smiled smugly as she found that her time had arrived.

She crouched down so that she was looking at Briar closely, a smirk on her face as she said, "Yes. A whore is much better than you. At least, her face is known to all. Who doesn't know that she is one? But you are fake. You have been pretending for over a decade. Making yourself look holier than thou when you have been harboring lust for my brother. To think that at such a young age, you were thinking about taking him for your own. You disgust me, Briar!" disdain written all over her face.

Briar whimpered in disbelief as she looked at Alice. However, she didn't retort her words, rather she looked down as if accepting her fate.

Alice, seeing that, felt more invigorated. Her mouth opened as if she was on a high-charged battery. "I can understand that my brother is very good and you couldn't help it, but murdering his wife? You went too far!" Alice's eyes turned red as she accusingly said that.

This time, Briar didn't continue to play dead but raised her eyes as tears continued to stream down her cheeks.

"You …. Why do you keep on saying that I murdered her? Why do I need to kill her? What wrong did she do to me, for me to do such a thing?" Briar chokingly asked in defense, bafflement in her tone as she looked at Alice.

The two were locked in a deadly confrontation. They completely forgot that the garden despite being private, other people could roam there as well.

And that could be seen by several heads visible behind the hedge as the fight between Alice and Briar continued.

When the kids saw their second mother being slapped, they hurriedly went to report. As a result, the kids, Logan and his mother, all rushed to the garden.

Taking advantage of their distraction and immersive confrontation, the group didn't move forward to stop the fight but rather listened.

And that was more the case when Alice started accusing Briar, who was in pain lying on the ground. Although their hearts ached from seeing Briar hurt like that, they were so curious about Selena.

It wasn't a silly matter. So, Briar could only suffer for the moment.

Unfortunately for them, they had no clue that while they thought that their arrival was unnoticed, someone else had been waiting for their arrival. And every single action was staged for them to see.

Briar had been preparing for this day for a very long time.

So how could she let it go without causing some waves in their hearts?

Now it just depends on how good her skills would be to eliminate the suspicion that Alice had hung over her head.

It wasn't going to end that simple.

That was the perfect and amazing Selena that they were talking about.

How could these people be at ease?

However, the show must go on and Alice is the perfect playmate.

Alice, upon hearing that, burst out into a peal of laughter, finding Briar's words very hilarious.

She couldn't help but applaud Briar for her shamelessness.

"Hehe, who are you trying to fool with those words? It's just the two of us here. Hehe, if it weren't for Logan, would you even look at us the way you do?"

Briar gritted her teeth as she looked at Alice, and started retorting angrily, "I have no reason to dislike Selena. If it wasn't because of her. I would be stuck in that goddamn place where I grew up. She saved me from a fate that most of the girls who grew up with me couldn't escape. She was my savior and someone I greatly looked up to. She was like a mother and a big sister I ever dreamt of." tears of passion streamed down her tears.

"Heh. If I wanted to kill her, let's say, to get Logan's heart, then why did I waste all these years taking care of her health? Shouldn't I have just used the traditional medicine to kill her then and be over with it? If I was so obsessed with Logan to the extent of committing the so-called murder, don't you know that there are charms to help a person win a person who doesn't love them?

If I was that murderous, why did I nurse her to health, and suffer with the kids, Logan, and the house? Instead of wasting too many years, let her increase kids, which I don't find to be bad. Who doesn't love kids, anyway? Why didn't I make a move? If I killed her, as you claim, then tell me in my face. How the heck did I kill her?

Stop accusing me left and right just because you don't like me. Even though I liked your brother at a young age, I never did anything that anyone could say that I killed her. does liking someone mean that when the wife dies, I become the killer?" Briar passionately poured her grievances, rendering Alice speechless.

Never in a million years did she think that Briar would openly agree that she had liked her brother for so many years.

She also didn't think that the other would reason so well like that. She didn't even have a single thing to say to refute about that.

She wasn't the only person. Even those in hiding who had narrowed their eyes and clenched their fists, wavering that Briar might have something to do with Selena's death, were convinced.

Alice's accusations didn't make sense at all.

But was Alice willing to just give up when she saw things with her own eyes?
