CHAPTER 54: HER DESTINY

She didn't know how long she had been stuck in this place, but all she knew was that she wanted to get out as soon as possible.

She had been hearing about the people she loved visiting her all the time, trying to talk to her and stimulate her to wake up.

She desperately wanted to move a hand and show them that she was fine, but alas, the ancestors just couldn't let her live freely.

After she fell unconscious, a decision she regretted mostly.

In a moment of excitement, and desire to stop the Meyer family from associating her with anything to do with Selena's death, she knew that she needed to make a drastic move.

One that would shock the family and make them empathize and sympathize with her.

By removing the suspicion of Selena's death from her, which she was certain she took no part in, she didn't believe that she would be judged for loving Logan.

What was wrong with loving someone?

However, for aiding in murder, she knew how dangerous that might be.

She loved the kids so much and let them look at her as someone who had a part in their mother's death. She would rather pack her bags and go and settle down in the village than remain with the Meyers.

As a result, she threw herself against the fountain to prove her innocence and now it landed her in hot soup.

The surgery was successful. She was supposed to wake up sooner, but unfortunately; she found herself in a tough situation and one she didn't seem to be able to come out of anytime soon.

"Child, the more you drag this issue, the more you will have to spend time with us here. Are you sure that's what you want?"

Briar snapped her eyes open and glared angrily at the illusory figure sitting cross-legged in front of her, dressed like Mammy Adonai.

Briar didn't know which generation this spiritualist was, but she must be someone from the old times, otherwise, she might have seen her face in one of the old photos Mammy Adonai keeps at her house.

Looking at this spiritualist, Briar's memories returned to the first time she arrived in this dreamscape, as what the spiritualists she had seen so far had told her.

Briar was tested and seen to have a talent in this area at a young age. That was why she was taken in by Mammy Adonai, who trained her earnestly.

Briar didn't want to spend the rest of her life being a spiritualist and having no family and Mammy Adonai understood that perfectly.

That was why she taught her about herbs, a wonderful skill which helped her to leave the village with Selena back then.

However, just because she agreed to practice herbology didn't mean that she escaped from the calling of the spirits and the ancestors. They still wanted her to serve and Mammy Adonai had been helping her with the spiritual cleansing all this time.

Even though she didn't go to the village frequently, she would send her the medicine needed for the cleansing.

So, she successfully spent a decade without facing any troubles from her ancestors until she made a mistake; and tried to commit suicide.

Taking a chance when she was vulnerable, her spirit was summoned to the dreamscape and has been trapped ever since then.

And these spiritualists came out one by one, preaching to her like an MLM organization and doing their best to convince her to accept her destiny.

However, when she thought of accepting that destiny and living the rest of her life without Logan and the kids, she couldn't take it.

As a result, they were in a deadlock for as long as she could remember.

She didn't dislike being a spiritualist. By becoming one, she could become powerful and protect her loved ones strongly. But if that could be achieved by letting them go, then she wasn't living.

She would rather die as Logan's wife right now and join the ancestors than accept her destiny and live a lonely life.

She refused.

As if the spiritualist who came to trick her today heard her thoughts, she sighed dejectedly as she looked at her.

"You have one hell of a strong will there, child! Very impressive!" she suddenly said, her tone changing to a pleasant one.

When Briar heard that, her eyes twinkled for a moment, confused if she had just heard that right.

After getting used to threats lately, to suddenly hear such a tone, she couldn't help but wonder if they were changing tactics again.

The other, seeing Briar's wariness, couldn't help but chuckle heartedly as she looked at her.

Seeing the other, chuckling like that, Briar's uneasiness started vanishing. There was no way that these ancestors could laugh like this and then sentence her to death, right?

They couldn't be that deceptive, right?

She hoped so.

Briar waited until the other was tired of laughing to listen to what she had to say to her next.

"Child, I can see the worry in you and why you keep on refusing to accept what has been decreed for you. Aren't you afraid that by not taking this chance, you might lose what you love forever?"

Briar's body trembled upon hearing that, fully aware of the benefits that she might miss out on by rejecting. However, her gaze became firm as she looked at the ancestor and answered, "Without them, there is no reason for me to have such power."

"Can't you still protect them without them by your side?" she just couldn't get it.

When Briar heard that, she chuckled faintly as she looked at the ancestor before answering, "Ancestor, if you know me very well, you will understand that I am selfish. I am so selfish that I want to have both. If I can't have him, then I would rather die and let them commit me to memory for the rest of their lives,

Even if they find someone to replace me with later, there is no way that person would ever beat me. I managed to beat Selena despite being the wife and mother of the kids.

Everything I have done so far was all to get them and have them as my family. I have cleared the paths and dirtied my hands so many times just to keep that family afloat. And all that was done so that I would be there with them always, enjoying the fruits of my labor.

And you want me to leave everything so that I will pave the way for other vixens? Hahaha, I can't do that. I am unwilling!"

The thought of having the family that she protected, got rid of the weeds that continued to sprout and affected the growth of the seeds she nurtured with love, she was unwilling.

Over her dead body, could she allow such a thing to happen?

If it was possible, she would rather take the whole family with her. That way, they would all die on the same day since it was unfortunate to have not been born on the same day.

However, she was still rational.

Only when they are alive could they remember her more.
