Night at the hospital.

The room was quiet and was only heard by the breathing of the both father and daughter.

....

The next day at VEA teaching hospital.

It was a hot afternoon and the hospital was busy as always, the doctors doing what they best do and so as the patients who were either receiving treatment or taking a stroll round the hospital environment.

Meanwhile, Vivian wasn't busy at the moment, she just finished with her lectures and decided to take a walk around the hospital. As she strolled down the hallway, she happened to pass a room which it's door was opened. It was actually a VIP room.

Going backwards she looked into the room and found a little girl sitted on the bed, she had her eyes outside the window.

"Hey there" she walked into her room with his hands inside the pocket of her labcoat.

"Hi Doctor" the little girl greeted with a sweet smile.

"How're you doing?"

"Great." She answered

"Well, that's good to hear" Vivian replied as she picked up the little girl's folder which was just at the edge of the bed.

Looking at it, the little girl had Acute flaccid myelitis. It is an uncommon but neurological condition which usually affects the nervous system specifically the area of the spinal cord which causes the muscle of the body to become weak.

Vivian looked at the young lady after she read her file and her heart tightened. How could life be so unfortunate for this girl at a very young age. She must be feeling sad and would wish to get on her feet soon.

"Do you want to take a stroll outside the hospital?" She asked the little girl after she had noticed the little girl's attention had been outside the window the whole time she was here. She really missed playing outside.

"Really? " She asked with raised eyebrows.

"Yes Bianca" she had checked her name while going through her folder.

"Would it be okay?. My mum said I shouldn't play now I'm not feeling well" she asked not sure if her mum would give in or not.

"You don't have to worry about it. I'm your doctor and I know what's best for you. A little fresh air wouldn't hurt. Would it?"

"My doctor is always right and knows what's best for me" she repeated what Vivian had said.

"That's right Miss Bianca. What do you say?" She asked as she stood on her feet and stretched her arm for the little girl.

"Let's do this" she said happily and opened her arms for Vivian to carry her.

Vivian happily did so, she then placed her on the wheelchair with a blanket on her laps. If this is what the little girl wanted at that moment, she would happily offer to help her.

She deserved to be happy even if it's just for a moment.

After the little girl was settled, Vivian moved behind her and pushed the wheelchair. They both walked towards the elevator and she pressed the button going to the ground floor.

When they got to the lobby, Vivian pushed the wheelchair towards the door until they stepped out of the hospital.

The natural wind, fresh air and the sweet scent of the bloomed roses which were planted at the hospital's environment surged into their nostrils. They both felt at ease at the site .

Vivian watched the girl who had her eyes closed , she inhaled and exhaled. It felt as if this was the first time she had stepped out of her room in ages.

"How do you feel Miss Bianca?" She asked the little girl.

"I'm really happy. Thanks for taking me out" she turned to Vivian and thanked her.

"Anything for a sweet girl like you.." she replied with a chuckle.

"Would you like to go to the garden?" She asked.

"Is there a garden here?" She asked back.

"Of course there is"

"I'll love to go there, doctor. Please can you take me" she asked her and Vivian nodded before she pushed the wheelchair towards the road.

"On their way, they came across a young lady who carried in her hand a black nylon. She must have gone to buy something.

"Bianca?" The woman was shocked to see her daughter outside and with a strange face but as she looked at Vivian's outfit she felt safe once again.

"Hey ma. You must be Bianca's mum"

"I am." She replied as she bent down and pecked Bianca on her cheek.

"She needed to receive fresh air to help her recover and that's what I'm trying to do" she explained herself.

"Thank you for taking her out for a walk" she showed her appreciation.

"The pleasure is mine, ma'am. We're heading to the garden, would you like to join us" .

"Of course doctor" she then joined them at the garden.

After that she headed back to the hospital where she met with her mentor. He had a meeting to attend at night and would probably dismiss late so he told her she would have to stay the night and watch an important patient for him.

Vivian who had the night planned with her friend wasn't happy but didn't have an option, she had to accept.

"Yes doctor" she answered not audible enough for professor Campbell. This made him look up at her.

"Do you have a problem with that?" He asked and she shook her head.

"No doctor. I'll do just that" she answered audible enough.

"Oh peach. I'm so sorry you had to stay the night" Stacy who had her arm around Vivian's shoulder said. She was sad for her.

"I'm really sad" Vivian complained with a pout. They were now walking out of the hospital premises. Vivian wanted to buy dinner and also escort her friend to the station.

"You don't have to be. It's just a matter of hours and you're done besides you cat sleep from time to time" Stacy said.

"No, I can't fall asleep. The patient's safety comes first" Vivian corrected her friend, Stacy who shrugged her shoulder and said.

"Whatever"

"We're here," she stopped right in front of a store.

"I thought you were going to buy dinner at a restaurant" Stacy asked.

"And that's what I'm doing here, buy dinner and we also need some items at home" she held Stacy's arm and they walked into the store.
