Chapter 156 Sabrina's Expectations
The two attacks collided again, and this time Charmeleon used more energy, making the Flamethrower's power almost reach its peak, with the golden flames burning even brighter!
Sabrina frowned. Charmeleon's strength was putting a lot of pressure on her.
After a fierce struggle, Flamethrower completely swallowed Psyshock and continued bombarding Kadabra with unabated power, the flames resembling a roaring fire dragon!
Sabrina's eyes narrowed slightly, and she issued a mental command to Kadabra. Kadabra, upon receiving the order, instantly activated its Psychic-type energy, disappearing in place and reappearing elsewhere on the field.
The flame passed harmlessly over Kadabra's original spot, leaving only a scorched black mark on the ground. Kadabra had used Teleport!
Realizing its attack had missed, Charmeleon grew cautious. Although slightly stronger than Kadabra, Kadabra's Teleport allowed it to easily dodge attacks.
Ash understood this and immediately thought of countermeasures. To defeat Kadabra, he had to either counter the Teleport or force Kadabra to be unable to use it.
There were two possible strategies: use wide-range attacks or overwhelming power to destroy Kadabra before it could teleport.
The first solution wasn't feasible, as Charmeleon lacked wide-range attacks. So, Ash chose the second solution!
"Charmeleon, use your most powerful Flamethrower!" Ash commanded, urging Charmeleon to attack with all its might.
A golden flame flickered in Charmeleon's eyes as it gathered energy in its mouth, aiming at Kadabra and unleashing a devastating blast!
The condensed flame distorted the surrounding air, as if warping space itself!
Sabrina remained expressionless, but she had already given Kadabra its orders.
Kadabra activated Teleport again, vanishing instantly and reappearing just ten meters away from Charmeleon!
"What?!" Ash's face changed slightly. He had been careless, overlooking the possibility of Kadabra teleporting beside Charmeleon!
Charmeleon saw Kadabra in the corner of its eye and immediately tried to stop its Flamethrower, but it was too late!
Kadabra raised its right hand, aimed the spoon at Charmeleon, and unleashed a Psybeam attack!
"Boom!" The Psybeam struck Charmeleon, sending it flying and causing significant damage.
"Charrr———!" Charmeleon cried out in pain, falling to the ground. The unexpected attack had depleted nearly half of its strength!
Sabrina, though outwardly calm, had a satisfied glint in her eyes. She didn't waste this opportunity and continued to command Kadabra to attack.
Kadabra aimed its spoon at the fallen Charmeleon, and a pink-purple Psychic-type light condensed into a powerful beam, vibrating the surrounding air.
"Cheer up, Charmeleon, fight back with Flamethrower!" Ash shouted, encouraging Charmeleon.
"Charr..." Although weakened, Charmeleon wasn't defeated. It struggled to its feet, facing the incoming Psybeam with a fierce determination. Flames surged from its tail.
"Roooar!" Charmeleon roared, unleashing a torrent of flames, the Flamethrower surging forth to meet the Psybeam.
This time, Charmeleon held nothing back, pouring all its energy into the attack, even causing a slight overflow!
The flames, mostly saffron-colored with hints of orange, illuminated the entire battle hall!
"Boom!" The Flamethrower engulfed the Psybeam and continued its assault on Kadabra. Sabrina reacted, but it was too late for Kadabra to teleport.
"Boom!" The flames swallowed Kadabra completely. When they subsided, Kadabra was left smoking, its body scorched.
The battle hall was silent, everyone's eyes fixed on Kadabra.
A moment later, Kadabra collapsed, unable to continue.
"Kadabra is unable to battle; Charmeleon wins! Since the Gym Leader has lost three Pokémon, the winner of this battle is the challenger, Ash!" The referee announced, looking at Ash with a hint of shock.
"Yes!" The battle hall erupted in cheers. Misty and Brock were ecstatic.
"Successful, Charmeleon! Great job!" Ash ran onto the battlefield with Pikachu, embracing Charmeleon in celebration.
This battle with Sabrina had been his toughest yet. If not for Charmeleon's inherited power, victory might have been impossible. Sabrina was truly strong, and Ash realized he still had a long way to go.
Sabrina, despite her loss, showed no disappointment. She calmly recalled Kadabra and looked at Ash.
Although she hadn't used her main team, she had fought with her full strength and lost. However, she felt no regret.
On the contrary, Sabrina felt a surge of excitement. It had been a long time since she had experienced this feeling, perhaps not since her encounter with Agatha.
"This person...maybe..." Sabrina quietly observed Ash as he celebrated.
Although he was younger than her, Sabrina could confidently assert that his future wouldn't be limited to that of an ordinary Trainer, Elite Four member, or even a Champion.
Even greater heights, unseen by anyone, were within his reach!
