Chapter 29: Medical Examination

Selene’s POV

The water splashed just inches from my exam sheet. Instinctively, I jerked my chair back, narrowly avoiding the mess. Elara’s cronies had made their move, but I was faster than they anticipated. My heart raced, but I didn’t let it show on my face. Instead, I calmly wiped the edge of my desk, trying to ignore the small group of girls sneering at me. Their plan had failed, but the smug look on Elara’s face made me uneasy. She wasn’t upset. In fact, she looked pleased.

Something else was going on.

I made sure to finish my exam without drawing attention to myself. Every instinct told me not to confront them now but to wait. I glanced at the invigilator, a tall man with graying hair, who hadn’t even reacted to the attempted sabotage. He continued pacing the room as though nothing had happened. That, more than anything, made me suspicious.
