Selene’s POV
"No," I said firmly, crossing my arms over my chest. "I refuse."
A flicker of irritation crossed James's face, quickly replaced by a sigh as if dealing with a stubborn child. "Selene," he began, his tone laced with condescension, "think carefully. This is not just about you. It’s about your pack, your people. You could be their savior. Turning down this offer means condemning them to struggle while you hide behind Lucian's protection."
His words stung, cutting at my sense of duty. I had fought hard for my pack, and James was weaponizing my loyalty against me.
"I'm not hiding behind anyone," I shot back, my eyes narrowing. "I won’t be manipulated into a marriage just to please you or anyone else. My pack deserves a Luna who stands on her own terms, not one shackled by your schemes."
