Chapter 32: House Arrest

Selene’s POV

My heart pounded as I stared at Lucian, his eyes fixed on the invitation in his hand. It was the calm before the storm. I had just returned from the restroom, finally ready to admit my feelings to him, but now everything had shifted. That damned envelope was ruining everything.

I cursed myself inwardly. In my rush to clear my head, I must have dropped the invitation when I jumped up from the table. Of course, it had fallen right where Lucian would find it. Now I was left scrambling for an explanation while his gaze bore into me, demanding answers.

He held up the envelope, turning it slightly like he was examining a piece of evidence. “Care to explain why you have this?” he asked, voice deceptively calm. “This banquet is private. Only the key members of the Southern Pack and its factions are invited.” His eyes narrowed, scrutinizing me.
