Nadia's POV
The laughter echoed in my head long after it had ended, taunting me.
I glared at Mason, who, like always, seemed to be the cause of all my hurt and embarrassment. What was wrong with him? I thought we were in a truce.
And seriously, what had I ever done to him to deserve all of this?
"Thanks for the 'gift,' but in the future, just know that I don't need hand-me-downs, Mason," I managed to say with a smile on my face, focusing on all of those around him still smiling at my expense. "Because unlike you and most of your pampered people, I work for my own money."
Mason frowned at me. He opened his mouth to say something, but I suddenly realized I didn't want to hear it.
I stormed down the last couple of steps and raced past him. Despite the strength I had shown in standing up for myself, I felt more lost inside than ever.
I had been sure that the gift had been from Ethan, but now I found out it was from Mason. And what? Was it all just some big prank all along?
