First day of school. Lots of new and different faces. Lots of introductions too. My sister's actually advised me to skip the first week of classes. I regret not listening to them. Whatever.
First class, just introductions. I don't remember anyone. I'm very bad at names and faces, or just remembering anything in general. Next class, the same thing happened. I keep on saying the same thing. It's annoying. Recess. Same process for the next two subjects. Lunch.
Then a teacher who doesn't follow the usual routine showed up. He told us to write our names and our dream job in a piece of paper and pass it in front. He started picking up one name after the other. He only asked either what we hated or what we liked and why. He asked me what I like, so I thought about it, I like playing the devil's advocate I thought. They all laughed, I actually blurted that out. Oh well, not like it's a secret.
Instead of asking me why, he asked, should abortion be legalized? He first asked my classmates take on this matter. They were equally divided. And as the devil's advocate, I didn't pick sides because there wouldn't be fun in anything that's picked by everyone. I don't really mind whether it was legalized or not because I can see the pros and cons of both sides. So it's not a matter of legalizing, it's a matter of conscience and culture.
Think about it, not everyone lived the way you did. What if she was raped? But, what if it was because of an impulse to just do it without thinking about the consequences? Then again, would you let her let a child live without the basic necessities? Why did you do it in the first place? It was because of stress. Then live with it. My body, my rules. You can't undo your actions.
You see, abortion is not a black or a white situation. It's very layered with one making more sense than the other depending on the context. I don't support or advocate for abortion but, I won't deny it to those in need of it.
Anyway, the discussion was heated. No one won of course. I had fun though. I love this school already. I really love debates. After that, the usual getting to know each other happened on the sixth and seventh classes. The last class, he just told us to pass a piece of paper with our names then he just told us about his classroom rules.
The whole day was boring but I had a fun time with the debate so I don't regret not skipping classes.
I'm excited for tomorrow.
