Erickson started to laugh.
"What? So this girl is still on it? I guess you really can't judge someone by the book after all!" he exclaimed, looking over to his personal bodyguards, who also started to laugh, albeit not as hard.
He pointed at Avond. "You— that helpless girl—did you put her on cleaning duty? Why hasn't she given up yet?" he asked, his eyes glinting with amusement.
Avond tried to force a smile. "Yes, ah… well… she's quite something."
"So, what about her then? Does she want something more serious and dangerous?"
"No," Avond sighed. "I want you to stop the engagement between her and Tiel," he finally said.
And just like that, the office fell into a hushed silence, the only audible sound was the clock ticking on the wall. Erickson's amused expression slipped off, slowly fading into a frown.
