Anything for you

"Regina, who's that person in the picture?" Regina heard Rosie's question but she chose to stay silent as she didn't want to talk about anything now. She needed some time to calm her mind.

Four years ago, her mother and maternal grandparents died in a car accident on this very same day. She was then left all alone with no one to look after her.

A few months later, a smart looking foreigner came knocking on her door claiming to be her father's brother. Her mother never mentioned anything about her father in detail. All she ever knew about her father was that he's a foreigner named Franklin Thompson. And her mother met him while studying abroad.

Regina never though that one day she would meet someone from her father's side. She thought her father's family never accepted her mother for who she was. So she assumed her mother came back to Korea without continuing her studies abroad.

Henry Thompson then clarified all her doubts. He mentioned that her paternal grandparents died in an accident, while searching for her father who went missing. He then told how her mother took all the burden and decided to raise her alone.

With his brother missing and parents dead, Henry himself knew the pain of living as an orphan. So, he came looking for his neice when he heard about her situation.

Regina left her home country with her only relative Henry Thompson without hesitation.

She was just happy to have a family member by her side even if it was some strange person whom she never met before.

After she came to Henry's country, she had trouble with the language and culture. She was bullied for her looks. It was Rosie who helped her through everything. She would have gone mad from stress and depression had it not been for Rosie.

Regina smiled thinking back to the days when Rosie behaved like a mother hen and protected her from people who bullied her.

"Rosie darling, how about we go shopping and then catch up on some nice food on the way?" Regina asked trying to get her mind out of sad thoughts.

In just a week from now, they would be in University entering a new phase of their lives and might not get enough time for themselves. She wanted to hang out with Rosie now that she had some time.

"You mean like a date?" Rosie asked as she started searching for good restaurants in the town.

Regina rolled her eyes. Why would she go on a date with her girl friend? She would love to go on a date with a guy. But men around her have no eyes to appreciate her beauty. She could only make do with Rosie for now.

"A date it is, then" Regina nodded with a smile before going into the bathroom to freshen up. As long as Rosie was satisfied, she wouldn't mind calling it a date.

Regina was dressed to heavens in a peach colour dress while Rosie looked too plain in her tshirt and denim shorts.

Rosie was not upset. She immediately pulled out a lavender colour dress from Regina's closet before running into the bathroom.

What are best friends for, if not for sharing?

They helped each other with their makeup and hairstyle. Both the girls looked at each other in amazement. They were looking fabulous.

They walked into the living room while chatting.

Henry heard their voices from the kitchen and turned towards them. Henry was instantly alerted on seeing two cute princesses. He couldn't help but enquire about their plans.

"We're going on a date" Rosie said instantly.

"Oh..good, good" Henry said casually as though he wasn't bothered.

The girls had their breakfast prepared by Henry before heading for the garage.

But they never expected Henry to tag along, saying it was for their safety.

The girls slapped their forehead in frustration.

...

Rosie and Regina walked into a famous boutique in the town. They were so irritated with Henry following them like a bodyguard, they decided to empty his pockets.

With two young girls continuously browsing through the shelves, picking dresses and running in and out of the trial room while taking photos, the shop looked very lively.

Henry sat reading a magazine in one corner, while the two girls gave him a fashion show with dresses in various colours and designs.

Two hours had passed but the girls were still contemplating on what to buy.

Henry felt the energy drain from his body. He couldn't keep himself stuck in this shop forever. He simply asked the shop assistants to pack all the dresses the girls tried so far.

The girls were shocked. How could he buy a dozen dresses just like that?

They had to save money atleast for six months if they want to buy a single dress.

Regina was very confused. When did her uncle become this rich? She wanted to ask him but Rosie was a step ahead.

"Uncle Henry, did you win any lottery recently?" Rosie asked innocently.

She never had the privilege to buy such expensive clothes. All the clothes she ever wore were what she bought at thrift shops.

Rosie's mother struggled working several odd jobs to make ends meet until she died of cancer last year.

Since then, Rosie took up various part time jobs to earn money for daily necessities. How could she afford such expensive stuff when she's dirt poor?

Henry simply laughed while handing his bank card to the shop assistant.

Seeing that Henry was serious about buying all the dresses they tried, the girls stopped him. But all Henry said was a simple line that deeply touched he girls.

"Anything for you, my princesses"

Rosie was so touched, she treated Henry to lunch with her hard earned money. Although, the restaurant she chose looked a bit old and tacky, the food was good.

...

"Wait a second, Rosie" Timothy ran after the girl who was leaving his restaurant.

Rosie turned around to see Mr. Tim heaving while holding his knees. Rosie excused herself from her companions before running towards him.

She heard Mr. Tim say between his deep breaths "Francis came... in the morning to take his payment. And also... he wanted to give you this"

Timothy then handed her a small box containing a silver neck chain with a tiny bead as a pendant. Rosie never had a good opinion on Francis and didn't know if she could take something given by him. Moreover, she didn't know if he's trying to harm her by giving this necklace to her.

Timothy seemed to be in a hurry, as he kept looking at his restaurant. He couldn't leave the counter for long.

Without waiting for Rosie's response, he stuffed the box into her hands before walking back.

Rosie was left in trouble. She's didn't know if she should keep the necklace or throw it away. She thought for a second before taking it with her.

Seeing the box in Rosie's hand, Regina asked if she could take a look at the contents.

Rosie had no problem and handed the box to Regina. Henry who was standing close to his neice, saw the chain with the bead pendant. He saw many of these chains back in his college days. He remembered how boys used to gift these to their girlfriends. The bead contained a scent their girls liked.

He explained what all he knew about the chain but Rosie was utterly speechless. She hates Francis so much, she wouldn't even receive a small candy from him, let alone a chain of this kind.

Rosie wanted to throw it away but Regina took a smell of the bead. She loved the mild citrusy scent and asked if she could keep it.

Rosie saw nothing wrong in it. If Regina liked it, she could keep it. She would never want something like that anyway.

She just prayed no harm would happen to Regina for keeping that neck chain with her.
