Only human

Far away from the hubbub and lights of the city, somewhere in the middle of the forest, there stood a huge building that looked almost like a stone castle.

It was dark with only the moonlight covering the tree crowns in the forest.

A tall man stood on the top floor of the castle like building as he stared out of a window.

He looked around, observing the wolves running and playing far away in the forest.

He then saw the full moon showcasing its glory. His face instantly turned gloomy.

When was the last time he enjoyed the beauty of a full moon without feeling any pain and guilt in his heart?

Lucien then turned around to look at the wooden door. He knew someone was standing outside his room.

No matter how hard they tried to calm themselves, he could still clearly hear their heartbeat even from hundred metres distance.

His heightened senses were something that makes him who he was... something that differentiates him from normal humans.

"What do you need?" Lucien opened the door and asked in impatience. He never liked to have strangers in his house. He wouldn't even mind killing them when they disturbed his peace.

There stood a young woman dressed in a white and pink sports gear. She looked so lean and weak, one blow of wind could make her fly away. She took a deep breath to calm her thumping heart before she opened her mouth.

"Alivia wants you to come down for dinner" the young woman spoke in a soft voice. Her eyes were twinkling like stars as she looked up at the tall man before her.

She got lost when she was hiking the nearby mountain that morning. She got separated from her friends and was severely injured. It was Alivia who saved her and brought her here to recover.

When she first walked into the house, she noticed this tall man in the garden, where he was watering some plants.

Alivia must have noticed her when she was staring at him without blinking her eyes. She immediately introduced him as her brother, Lucien. But, before she could introduce herself, he left them with an excuse that he had to take a call.

She wanted to take another look at this handsome man, so she found a perfect excuse to meet him here alone.

If she could get some alone time with Lucien, she was confident she could capture his heart with her beauty.

However, she wouldn't be able to meet him here all by herself unless Alivia asked her to do a favour. She was grateful that Alivia was actually supporting her.

Lucien could guess the thoughts running in this young woman's mind. But he was very doubtful. He didn't know if this woman came to him on her own or if his little sister Alivia was playing some game with him.

Everyone around Lucien Kingsley knew it very well that he need not eat any food which was meant only for humans.

If Alivia was really playing a game with him, Lucien wouldn't mind playing along with her.

With the young woman following behind, he walked down the stairs to meet his sister Alivia at the dining table. He was surprised to see almost twenty different dishes set up on the table.

Was Alivia trying to feed a human or a pig?

Lucien sat at the head of the table with Alivia on his left. The young woman was conflicting where to sit when Alivia pulled the chair next to her.

"Meghan, come sit next to me"

Meghan actually wanted to sit closer to Lucien but she was afraid her actions would be too obvious. Now that Alivia asked her to sit next to her, she could only comply.

She thought it would be only the three of them to have dinner and tried to initiate a chat with Lucien "Hello Mr. Lucien, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Meghan Williams"

However, as soon as she ended her introduction, few more people walked upto the dining table.

The table for eight was soon filled with people. A tall, handsome man with slightly tanned skin and curly brown hair sat on Lucien's right side.

Meghan gave a slight smile to others which looked almost like a grimace. She really wanted to have a chat with Lucien and get to know him better.

But, the timing now seemed to be a bit bad for her.

Meghan then saw a brown skinned woman with black hair sit next to the brown haired man and beside her sat a little boy about eight years age.

Meghan noticed the chair on her left was taken by another young man and the last chair was occupied by a old woman.

Lucien looked at all the people around the table. Then stared at Alivia with a knowing smile as if saying 'What are you doing? Why would you call everyone here? Are you trying to scare the weak human to death?'

Alivia smiled and gave him a wink as she saw Meghan from the corner of her eye.

Meghan felt suffocated with all the eyes focused on her. She tried to speak something thinking it could calm her nerves. "Do you people eat like this everyday or is it because of me?" Meghan asked looking at the massive spread of expensive food on the table. If she wanted to eat this kind of food even in a cheap restaurant, she had to pay an insanely high amount.

The others ate their food silently as they weren't interested chatting with the stranger while Lucien simply nodded his head.

Alivia added staring at Meghan "But this is the first time for a human guest to join us"

"What do you mean?" Meghan asked as her mind could not process her words properly.

"Just as I said" Alivia said taking the plate with a nicely cut steak from Lucien.

Meghan was stunned as she understood what Alivia said. But soon realised that Alivia was joking and laughed "You're joking, right?"

"She's not joking. No one would come here after knowing who we really are. These two are shapeshifters" the little boy said pointing at the couple next to him. Then continued while pointing at himself "Me, sister Alivia and brother Lucien are vampires and this oldie here is a powerful witch while this guy next to you is a vampire hunter and you're the only human here"

Just then, Meghan heard a howling wolf from afar, which caused her body to twitch in fear. She was so scared, she fainted immediately.
