Be a good boy

Lucien's eyes turned dark when he saw his little brother Derek scare the wits out of that human. She had fainted just by knowing their real identity.

All he wanted for now was this human to get out of his place alive. He didn't want to create unnecessary trouble by having this human here for long.

"Compel her and send her out" Lucien instructed Alivia.

He never liked to interact much with humans, as they were the scariest creatures he had ever encountered in his life. He always stayed away from humans as much as possible.

Alivia threw the human girl over her shoulder before she moved at lightning speed. She was back in a few minutes, took her seat and enjoyed the steak before her.

Everyone ate their food in silence when they heard the old witch say "Lord Lucien, I have outlived my life already. I might not stay with you for long. You should find someone else to serve you from now on"

"Melinda, you're just a little over eighty years. That's twenty years less than the time your great grandmother served us" the little boy, Derek said as if he heard a joke.

How could he forget that resilient woman who lived for hundred and thirty years and served the Kingsley family for nearly a century.

Melinda glared at Derek. Though he looked small and cute as a button, he's wise enough to understand she was serious and not at all joking.

With her bones weakened and teeth broken, she could barely handle her personal life. How could she serve this mighty family in her poor health condition?

She's just a witch, not a god.

"Why are you looking at Derek like that? He didn't say anything wrong? And why are you asking my brother to find a witch? Isn't it your family's duty to serve us? Ask someone from your family to take your role" Alivia voiced out her opinion. It was Melinda's ancestors who vowed to serve the Kingsley family. It had been like this for centuries.

If someone had to search for a new witch to work for them, then it had to be Melinda herself who should do that particular job.

Melinda stared at the brown skinned girl seated at the table. She then sighed with a sad face. She would love to have her daughter Clara work for the Kingsley family.

But how could she do that when her daughter was already dead?

"Melinda, don't stare at my girlfriend. Your daughter died for being greedy. She was killed because she coveted something which wasn't hers to begin with" the brown haired guy said in displeasure.

"Lord Sebastian, I'm not blaming your girlfriend. I know Clara had it coming. I'm just sad that my daughter had chosen the wrong path" Melinda said in a soft voice before she turned towards the brown girl next to Sebastian.

"Miss Anya, I'm sorry. I'll apologize on my daughter's behalf" Melinda lowered her head as tears fell from her eyes.

With her lean figure, wrinkled skin and weak body, it was already great that she could hold herself from crumbling under the pressure put out by all these supernatural beings.

"Granny Melinda. Don't be like this. It's not your fault" Anya said feeling pity for the old lady. She then held Sebastian hand under the table, silently asking him to calm down.

Everyone fell silent for a minute with only the cutlery making sounds in the room.

When the dinner was almost coming to an end, Lucien asked. It looked like he was just asking out of curiosity but in reality he was suggesting something else "You have a son, right?"

Melinda knew Lucien was talking about her beloved son, Peter whom she hadn't seen or heard from for years.

Peter had left her because of a disagreement between them.

Peter wanted to marry an orphan girl he loved during his college. But, she forced him to break up with his girlfriend and marry another woman whom she thought would suit him well.

Peter indeed married the woman she had chosen for him and also cut ties with her.

Melinda knew she deserved it for breaking her son's heart and she wouldn't disturb her son's family now because of her selfishness.

"Lord Lucien, My son had no powers to begin with. I doubt even his offspring would be of any use to you. I'll do everything I can to find a witch to serve the Kingsley family" Melinda said with confidence before she continued with a faint smile "And I promise I'd find one before the family gathering"

Everyone around the table knew about the family gathering Melinda mentioned. It was that meeting where a special ritual was performed.

That ritual was a month from now, which meant Melinda should find a witch from her bloodline who's willing to work for them within a month.

"Are you sure about it? There's no need to hurry" Alivia was concerned. They weren't demanding Melinda to find someone in such a rush. She could take her time. Finding someone who could work for their family wasn't an easy task.

"I'm sure. Miss Alivia" Melinda said with a smile. She knew she had very little time. She could sense her energy draining day by day.

"Alright, then" Alivia said without prolonging the issue further.

"You can get him to help you around" Lucien said pointing to the young man next to Melinda.

"What do you mean? I'm not helping anyone with anything. I'm a busy person" the young man raised his voice immediately.

"What are you upto for you to be so busy?" Sebastian raised his eyebrows. He knew this man always said that he loved to explore the world but everyone knew he just loves hooking up. He wondered if this guy found a new woman he liked.

"I hunted down a bloody vampire a few days ago. I'm still tired and..."

"You call yourself the greatest vampire hunter but you're tired after killing a single rogue vampire. You even failed to protect a human from that vampire's attack. Aren't you actually getting rusty?" Derek laughed mockingly.

"Shut up, you little kid" the young man banged his palms on the table which resulted in formation of several cracks on the table.

"Enough, everyone. Don't tease him. But, even I think you should train yourself more by helping Melinda around" Alivia smiled at the young man.

Lucien looked at the people around the table for one last time and stood up to walk away. As if he remembered something, he turned around and said "Francis, be a good boy"

This single sentence made Francis Silverton to shut his mouth. He understood if he disobeyed the order, he should get ready to face severe consequences.
