Chapter 6. "Is it really you?"
<< Adagio in D Minor - John Murphy >>
Ezra woke with a start as his spinal cord snapped back into place reconnecting his nervous system with an excruciating jolt of agony. He cried out against the pain, grabbing his neck as if it were being snapped all over again.
But as he lifted his hands to his throat he heard a strange metallic clanking sound.
Shocked, Ezra looked down at the steel shackles binding his wrists and followed the long chain over to where it was deeply embedded into the grey concrete wall.
He appeared to be shackled in a small but relatively long room of plain concrete. It was windowless with a single heavy steel door with a small latch.
Across the other side of the room a second empty pair of shackles were resting on the floor, shorter than his own, which appeared to be long enough to reach the other end of the room. He could even reach the door itself.
