This novel starts intentionally slow through the exposition and world building, everything kicks into gear after the turning point in the latter half of Volume 1, and especially Volume 2, where the tone of the novel shifts. So, I hope you stick with it and enjoy the wild ride!

Chapter 21. "Because I've seen what a real monster is."

"No. I won't." Faith glared back at him stubbornly.

"Nope." She crossed her arms in front of her after slipping the knife back into the waistband of her leggings.

"Jesus, you're a pain in the arse, you know that?" Ezra sighed, turning away to walk back through the dense forest area.

"So I've heard. But I mean it. You need me too, if your results in training are anything to go by, then you're pretty shit at anything that isn't just brute strength or speed." She followed along behind him hurriedly and Ezra looked back at her in annoyance.

"Are you following me now? I thought you hated me." Ezra began to debate using Influence on this woman to leave him alone, but shook the thought out of his head, no. He couldn't risk giving an order that might affect one of their missions, he didn't want to be the reason anybody might get themselves killed.
