Chapter 5: Are You an Alien?

"What a pain!"

Finney hadn't expected that even after going through the trouble of setting up shop in the Upper East Side, something like this would still happen. New York truly wasn't a place for ordinary people to live in.

And, to be fair, it was partly his fault. If he hadn't summoned those three Purple Chicken Wraps out of thin air, he could've just handed those guys over to the police without a second thought.

Thinking it over carefully, Finney realized that the two robbers hadn't noticed anything unusual. When he had thrown the wraps in their faces, one of them had been in the middle of pulling out a gun, his gaze focused downward, meaning he didn't see the wraps materialize. The other robber had been knocked to the ground, completely missing the event as well. As for Skye, Finney hadn't had the chance to observe her closely, so he wasn't sure if she had seen anything, but even if she had, it wouldn't matter much.

Judging by her still-nervous demeanor, it seemed like she hadn't fully processed everything yet.

Sighing in frustration, Finney decided to let the robbers go. But first, he needed to make sure they weren't sent by someone.

"Why did you rob our store?"

"Because we're broke!"

"..."

That answer left Finney speechless. Beside him, Skye immediately erupted in anger, snapping, "If you're broke, why don't you rob a bank? Why pick on us?"

"We couldn't rob a bank!"

This response made Skye even more furious, and she kicked one of the robbers in frustration. Strictly speaking, the shop was hers, though it was mostly Finney's food that made the money.

After confirming they weren't hired by anyone, Finney relaxed a little. He sternly reminded them about the rules of this area and ordered them to leave their guns behind before letting them go.

"You'll forget everything that happened today and start living as decent people."

Before sending them off, Finney didn't forget to use the Golden Great Evolution Technique to plant the suggestion. Given how terrified they were of him, unless something unexpected happened, they'd likely forget everything by tomorrow.

Once the two robbers were out of sight, the first thing Skye did was lock the door and let out a long breath of relief. Then, hesitating for a moment, she asked, "Is it really okay to just let them go like that?"

"No problem."

Finney smiled and nodded, already having discreetly cleaned up the three Purple Chicken Wraps and erased the surveillance footage.

"Finney…"

Just as Finney was about to figure out how to convince Skye not to tell their parents about what had happened, he heard her voice trembling. "Earlier… I think I saw something suddenly appear in the air…"

"Three… three…"

"Three Purple Chicken Wraps, right?"

Finney sighed, cutting her off. He gave her a serious look and, thinking about the changes that would happen in a year and her own situation, decided to tell her the truth. "You're not mistaken. I made them."

Skye, still pale from the shock, took a shaky step back, then leaned forward again, fearfully asking, "Finney, are you… are you an alien?"

I'm 100% human. You, on the other hand, might have a little alien blood in you.

Finney grumbled to himself but rolled his eyes and responded, "What do you think?"

"I… I…"

Seeing Skye stammering, unable to find the words, Finney sighed. If he didn't already know about this world, he probably wouldn't have handled it much better than she was.

"Relax. I'm still Finney Haleseth, a pure Earthling. It's just a little special ability of mine. Like this."

Finney casually summoned another Purple Chicken Wrap and handed it to her.

Skye dumbly took the wrap, looking down at it, then back at Finney, opening her mouth as if to say something but unable to find the right words.

Since she had already caught on, Finney decided there was no point in hiding anything further. "Remember how you were asking earlier why Brian suddenly tripped at school?"

"You can think of that as another one of my abilities."

"Abilities?"

Skye's eyes widened like a curious kitten. As a hacker, she had always felt like there weren't many mysteries left in the world for her to discover, but now, she realized she knew nothing at all.

"Yeah."

Finney nodded and walked over to the sofa, motioning for Skye to join him.

Without hesitating, Skye sat down beside him and immediately asked, "Do Mom and Dad know?"

"You're the only one who knows."

Leaning back into the soft sofa, Finney turned to face Skye with a serious expression. "Skye, now that you know, I'll be straight with you. This world is dangerous, so don't go digging around online for strange things. You'll end up attracting trouble."

"Are there a lot of people like you with abilities?"

Having gotten over her initial fear, Skye's curiosity took over. She realized that Finney was still the same person, just with a new secret she hadn't known before.

"And, is your ability just to make people trip and create chicken wraps? Or do you have others? When did you discover it?"

Like an eager child, Skye fired off a barrage of questions before Finney could even answer the first one. "Do you know anyone else with powers?"

Scratching his head in frustration, Finney decided to answer her one by one. "I think there are quite a few people with special abilities in this world."

"As for when I discovered mine, it seems like I was born with it. And no, I don't know anyone else with powers."

After answering, Finney looked at Skye with a serious expression once again and reminded her, "Skye, I'm not joking. This world really is dangerous."

"There's probably some organization or group out there controlling people like me, keeping us from making an impact on society. It could even be the government."

"If you don't want to see me taken away to be dissected or experimented on, you'd better keep this secret."

"No way…"

Skye's face instantly filled with concern after hearing Finney's words. She didn't want to risk him being taken away. With a serious look, she promised, "I won't tell anyone."

Then, as if something had occurred to her, she quickly added, "But what about those two robbers…"

"Don't worry. They didn't see anything."

Finney could already feel the Golden Great Evolution Technique taking effect. By tomorrow, those two would forget everything that had happened and hopefully turn over a new leaf.

Seeing that Finney was so confident, Skye's worries eased slightly, and she silently prayed that the two wouldn't say anything.

The room gradually fell into silence. Skye, still a bit uneasy about keeping the secret, stopped asking questions and began thinking about what she could do to help if anything went wrong.

Meanwhile, Finney's attention shifted to something else entirely—the experience bar in his extraction system was full.

He could now unlock his third skill!
