NOAH
An engagement party.
Very unnecessary.
I didn't see the appeal in having to smile and act as if I could not wait to get married before people who I didn't give a shit about.
But both my mother and Aunt Juliette were too excited about it, and well, it was kind of hard — if not impossible — to dissuade both women once their minds are made up.
I knew the party would be an avenue to announce the wedding date, but I still wasn't particularly pleased about it. Especially not after the recent fight Ciara and I had the night before the press conference.
"Come on, Noey. Smile. Anyone who sees you like this will immediately know that would rather be anywhere but here," my sister chastised as she fixed my tie.
I could do it myself, but Harriet was just as fussy as our mother. So I let her suit herself.
"Of course I don't want to be here. Why should I have to pretend otherwise?" I responded.
