Chapter 113: Madison

Hamilton presses the elevator call button as Stan, Delta, and kids approach.

“Congratulations,” Stan whispers.

I assume Delta spilled the beans and instructed him to keep it a secret. I smile back. The elevator pings, and we all climb aboard. I notice Webb standing beside me, holding my book. A bookmark marks his place midway through the story.

“What’s your favorite part of the story so far?” I ask him.

Webb’s eyes remain downward, and he holds the book tighter.

“The main character,” he answers without explanation.

My eyes widen, my breath catches, and I will my body not to react further when he slides his hand in mine between us.

“She’s like you, but you aren’t alone. I am your friend, Madison.” He entwines his fingers with mine.
