Kade had been sitting in an empty room all day with nothing but a bed, not even a single sheet or pillow. He was bored out of his mind, trying to pass the time by looking for ways to escape.
After another failed escape attempt, Kade was sitting against the wall of the room, thinking of his life and how it would end if he died in a place like this.
Just as he was thinking, the door to the room jolted open as a man came in, sliding a plate of food across the floor.
Kade grimaced, it felt as if he was being treated like a dog would.
Kade watched as the door closed again, still handcuffed which restricted his movements. He ignored the food and turned his gaze to search the room.
Kade had no clue where he was, was he even in the United States? It sure seemed like it.
He sat down against the wall, staring at the wooden ceiling, where a large chandelier hung. The chandelier was made of glass and pearls and probably worth a few thousand dollars.
He closed his eyes, trying to get at least a wink of sleep.
SMACK!
Kade's eyes flew open after hearing the irritatingly loud sound. He looked towards the door, now wide open. There stood a man with a frame of around 6'1". He wore a large black coat, making his frame appear bigger.
Kade took a few seconds to make out who the man was, before realizing it was his kidnapper (and suspect), Dante!
"Oh, it's you."
"What do you mean it's me? I'm here to make sure you drop the case."
"Ah."
....
"Ah, what?"
Kade looked away, glancing towards the wall.
"You could be nicer, you know? And maybe not have killed my co-worker."
Dante sighed deeply, rubbing his temples. "You're irritating, you know that?" Kade just shrugged, slumping against the wall. "I know."
Silence.
Dante stepped up next to where Kade was sitting, extracting his hand, grabbing his cuffed wrists, and forcing him up on his feet.
"Are all criminals so rough?" Kade asked in an irritated tone, looking at Dante's clothes, especially his pockets, was there something useful in them?
Dante chuckled in reply. "All? No, certainly not. They're much worse."
Kade didn't reply, he just raised his eyebrow, making Dante scoff in response. "Don't look at me like that." there was a short pause.
"I'm just wondering when you'll reveal your plans since you haven't killed me yet."
Silence.
Dante shook his head, pulling Kade by the handcuff tied to his wrists and forcing him along. They walked down a long hallway, the walls decorated with portraits of past mafia bosses, some old, some young.
Finally, after what felt like a ten-hour hike, Dante came to a stop in front of a large wooden door, pulling Kade to stand in front of him, holding his tied wrists from behind.
"And.. what is this? Some kind of torture chamber?" Said Kade, his voice skeptical.
"No. I'm not going to use torture, although it's pretty damn tempting to throttle you." Replied Dante, who then pushed Kade into the room.
Upon seeing the room for the first time, Kade noticed it was a bedroom. He grimaced, glancing at Dante as if he was a pervert. "What?" Asked Dante, his voice laced with irritation. "It's only for you to stay in."
Kade didn't trust it, although he averted his gaze back to the room. It was bigger than his entire apartment, with a large spacious bed, a soft carpet, two bedside cabinets, and a private bathroom.
Before Kade could ask about it, Dante spoke up first. "And don't even try to escape. Cameras are recording your every move."
At Dante's words, Kade's eyes naturally shifted to the walls, wondering where the cameras were hidden. "You won't find them, stop wasting time."
Pause.
Dante let go of Kade's wrists, pushing him to stand in the middle of the room. "You'll stay in here until you decide to drop the case. If you refuse, I'll dispose of you just like your co-worker."
Those words sent a chill down Kade's spine, an annoying chill that was far too cold to ignore. "Okay." He muttered, not finding any other words to select from.
Dante hummed and stepped back, but only after unlocking and removing the handcuffs from Kade's wrists, pulling them off.
But before Dante could leave, Kade ran up and hugged him, which made him raise his eyebrow. "What the hell are you doing?"
"The coat is just so soft.." Kade hummed, holding the hug for a few more seconds before he was pushed away.
Dante glared at Kade as he pushed him away. "Watch it." He warned, finally turning to take his leave, unaware of what the hug was for.
Kade turned and walked over to the bed, sitting down in a way that should shelter the front of his body from the cameras- he then took out the pocketknife he had just taken thanks to the hug.
He watched it shine in the light of the room, knowing what he took it for.
Tomorrow's just another day.
