Chapter 307: Ling General, Ling Chi

Chapter 307: Ling General, Ling Chi

Above the Fire River, the waters suddenly began to boil as waves surged and crashed against the surrounding platforms, creating booming echoes. This commotion immediately attracted countless gazes from the onlookers, all curious about the source. Could it be that Lin Langtian was finally emerging?

Many people strained their necks for a better view.

Moments earlier, the strange ripples emanating from the Fire River's depths and the dark clouds above releasing bolts of lightning suggested that Lin Langtian had been undergoing both the Nirvana Tribulation and the Wind Thunder Tribulation simultaneously.

Simultaneously undergoing these two tribulations was rare, even for Yuan Gate disciples.

Not far from the Fire River, figures had gathered on a platform, forming seven distinct groups, each led by an individual standing proudly at the head. Many onlookers eyed these seven leaders with deep respect because these seven were the most outstanding of the current generation of Fire Division's direct disciples.

At the far right stood an exceptionally robust man clad in a red robe. His expression was cold and intimidating, and his striking red eyes gave the impression of blazing fire, causing a faint prickling sensation when met. This man was Fire Division's senior disciple and one of Yuan Gate's eight Ling Generals, Ling Chi.

Ling Chi's followers behind him exchanged curious glances as they observed the turbulent river. One of them furrowed his brow and sneered, "Looks like he has some skill. But even if he makes it through this Nirvana Tribulation, he'll still only be at the Seventh Nirvana Stage."

The followers of Ling Chi were no ordinary disciples either; each of them was an elite within the Fire Division, with levels that had already reached the Seventh and even Eighth Nirvana Stages. They were also skilled in powerful martial techniques, making them formidable opponents.

While Lin Langtian may have defeated Xiao Lie, such a feat hardly intimidated these elite disciples. After all, their leader was Ling Chi, the Ninth Nirvana Stage Ling General of the Fire Division.

Another disciple chimed in, "I heard Lin Langtian joined Fire Division to capture the Chaotic Demonic Flame. Seems like he's got his eyes on the Senior Brother's position as Ling General."

His words brought silence to the group, which quickly broke into derisive laughter. "A newcomer trying to take Ling General's place? Doesn't he know his limits?"

According to the rules of the Fire Division, access to the Chaotic Demonic Flame was restricted. Only Ling General, alongside the division leaders and select deacons, had permission. Thus, Lin Langtian's ambitions were obvious to anyone with sense. But given Ling Chi's unchallenged status as Ling General, his followers weren't concerned. Lin Langtian's rising momentum, to them, was irrelevant.

Hearing his followers' discussion, Ling Chi fixed his gaze on the Fire River, his red eyes flashing with a fiery gleam. He said coldly, "So, someone's interested in my position? It's been a while since we've had a bold new recruit. I'll be waiting for him at the Fire Division tournament, though those who challenge me don't fare well…"

His followers shivered, knowing precisely what Ling Chi's words implied.

Although competition within Yuan Gate was fierce, most disciples avoided fatal confrontations. But Ling Chi was an exception. He delighted in roasting his defeated opponents alive with fire, a savage method that was notorious even among Yuan Gate's eight Ling Generals.

Now, looking again toward Lin Langtian's location on the Fire River, those around Ling Chi wore expressions of sympathy. Daring to provoke Ling Chi was practically a death wish.

Boom!

Suddenly, a massive beam of light formed from condensed lava energy shot out of the river, creating a thunderous roar. As the surface rippled violently, the vortex shrank until only a narrow path remained.

"He's coming out!"

A disciple atop a distant mountain peak cried out, and everyone's eyes turned expectantly toward the Fire River.

Whoosh!

Just as the shout died down, a radiant beam of golden light shot from the shrinking vortex, soaring from the river into the sky.

Boom!

As it ascended, an astounding surge of energy rippled from the golden beam, capturing every gaze. In the heart of that radiance, a figure could be seen, head raised to the heavens, emitting a powerful, resonant call that spread far and wide.

Under everyone's attentive gaze, the golden light began to fade, revealing a slender, young figure.

Even from a distance, the figure appeared remarkable, wrapped in golden light, which gave off a palpable aura of pressure.

"That's… Primal Spirit energy…"

Ling Chi and his companions narrowed their eyes. Having reached the Seventh Nirvana Stage, they were all familiar with this energy signature. However, they were unsettled; not only was Lin Langtian's Primal Spirit energy stronger than theirs, but it also seemed far purer.

"He couldn't have already condensed his Primal Spirit, could he?" one of Ling Chi's followers asked in shock.

The richness of his Primal Spirit energy hinted that he may have achieved full condensation, a feat unimaginable for a mere newcomer.

Ling Chi frowned. Even at his own level, he had barely begun to form his Primal Spirit. The idea that Lin Langtian, with his Heart Essence Nectar and so little time, could do so seemed absurd.

Still, as he gazed at Lin Langtian's silhouette, an inexplicable feeling of animosity stirred within Ling Chi, quickly hardening into a sinister resolve.

On the river's surface, Lin Langtian sensed the wave of hostility. His gaze shifted, quickly locking onto Ling Chi. Upon seeing the red-eyed man, Lin Langtian seemed to recognize him, and a cold smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

After all, the role of Ling General within the Fire Division was a position only one person could hold.
