I tried to suppress my grin, but it was nearly impossible as Soren and Rudolf talked about whoever it was that caught Victor. I didn't want to say anything because I was in no mood for questions.
He had been terrible at hiding, almost embarrassingly so. Watching him skulk around, thinking he was evading everyone, had been a source of amusement for me. I had given him just enough room to feel safe, let him believe that he was finally free of the wolves nipping at his heels.
He had no idea that I'd been tracking him the entire time. The only reason why I haven't come after him since was because he was no threat to Soren. If not, I would have had his head on a pike.
The thrill of the chase was always satisfying, but this? This was something special.
He had no idea that I was gunning for him, it was time to weed out so many people who were beginning to grow bigger than they should.
