Chapter 156: Finding Lu Yunque

Chapter 156: Finding Lu Yunque

If Yun Zijin knew that Qin Sitong had said this, she might have leapt up accusing her of betrayal.

Saying "the real boss is someone else" implied she had no share at all.

"I see. In that case, I really appreciate that you can pass on the message.

Here's my phone number. Call me when you have an answer. If I don't pick up, I might be training, but I'll respond to any missed calls or texts!"

Jiang Yi took out a pen and paper, wrote his name and number, and handed it to Qin Sitong.

"Alright, I'll let you know the outcome."

Qin Sitong took the slip of paper. Then she asked, "We're out of Forget-Your-Worries milk tea, but our other drinks are good, too. Would you like to try them?"

Noticing that the conversation was winding down, Qin Sitong seized the chance to promote the shop's other drinks.

Jiang Yi and his comrades then realized they'd been sitting at the shop's table for quite some time without ordering anything. Feeling a bit awkward, they coughed lightly.

"Um, we'll just take lemonade. One glass each, nothing else."

They still had to be mindful of their diet outside; lemon water was less risky.

"Got it. I'll whip those right up. Please wait."

Qin Sitong quickly made three lemonades and brought them to their table.

"Here you go; take your time. Give me a shout if you need anything."

She set down the lemon water, grabbed her tray, and returned to the counter to assist other customers.

When Yun Zijin finished her own lunch and turned on her phone, a barrage of messages from Qin Sitong popped up. After reading them, Yun learned someone had come looking for her at the Wangyou (Forget-Your-Worries) Milk Tea Shop.

From Qin Sitong's description, she guessed it was that same young man with the callused knuckles. He'd bought the signature milk tea for someone else, and now that person wanted to meet her.

Thinking of Jiang Yi's background, Yun surmised the "old man" wasn't just some random elder. He was likely far more influential than suggested by "that old man" line.

Thus, Yun felt slightly uneasy. She didn't know this senior's attitude about the Forget-Your-Worries milk tea, nor why he wanted to meet her. Did he have an agenda?

To figure things out, Yun turned to her contacts. Anyone who'd tasted the Forget-Your-Worries milk tea was a potential helper. After scanning her list, she ended up in Lu Yunque's chat, thinking:

We're friends now. If a friend is in trouble, he shouldn't stand idly by, right?

So Yun clicked the chat box and, after deliberating, sent a detailed explanation of the situation:

Are you available or not?

If I refuse them, might I face issues when applying for documents, etc.?

She typed all her concerns. She didn't consider how Lu might feel upon receiving so many messages from her at once.

At that moment, Lu Yunque was working overtime at Lu Corporation. Seeing that Yun had sought him out in this predicament unexpectedly brightened his mood, and the sternness on his face gave way to a gentler look.

He didn't bother replying in text; he called her directly.

Yun, resting on her living room sofa while digesting lunch, picked up the phone to see Lu calling. She answered right away.

"Hey, Lu Yunque!"

"Mm, I just read your messages. I understand the situation.

So what do you think—do you actually want to meet him?"

If Yun didn't wish to meet the man, Lu could have an older family member deal with the matter. Though Lu still wasn't sure who that old man was, the info Yun provided was enough to investigate.

"That's why I messaged you. I'm uncertain. My roots here in the capital are shallow. If he decides to cause me headaches because I refuse, that'd be a problem."

A nuisance, perhaps not more than that, yet still worrisome.

"Should I do some checking for you? I'll give you a response tomorrow."

With his grandfather's influence, he could easily investigate a "JUN-related" person.

"You're sure? It won't be a hassle for you?"

Were it feasible to check, Yun was all for it. But since these were likely JUN folks, she hesitated. Otherwise, she'd have asked Meilin to investigate already.

"It's fine. I'll have my grandfather look into it. This is trivial."

This was precisely when having elders in one's family was advantageous. If not for his grandfather, investigating the JUN side would be tough.

"Thanks for the help. I'll treat you to dinner sometime."

Lu didn't lack anything else, so all Yun could offer was a meal.

"Sure, I'll be looking forward to it."

After that, both sides went silent briefly.

"Um... how's the Western Suburb Resort project going? I haven't checked in for a while..." she asked, then mentally kicked herself, recalling she wasn't directly involved in that venture—she merely leased the land to Lu and collected monthly rent.

"It's nearly complete. Once it's ready for a trial opening, I'll send you an invitation."

Lu felt a bit awkward recalling the Western Suburb Resort. Their initial acquaintance was tied to that land.

"Alright, let's invite others too," Yun said, suddenly feeling her cheeks heat. She lightly patted her face, unsettled for reasons unknown.

"It's late. I'm heading to bed. You should rest soon, too. Goodnight!"

And before Lu could wish her goodnight, she abruptly hung up.

Realizing she'd cut him off, Lu chuckled. Indeed, since she told him to rest, he'd do so now.

Having secured this request from Yun, he decided to visit the Lu family's old manor that evening. But it was well past midnight when he returned, and everyone had gone to bed. Lu simply went to his room, washed up, and crashed for the night.

The next morning, seeing Lu in the old house was a shock for his grandparents. They saw him descending the stairs and exclaimed:

"Ah! Our dear Skylark came home! When did you arrive last night?"

Xu Suhua hadn't expected such a pleasant surprise early in the day. Ever since Lu joined the family company, he got busier. To save commute time, he stayed in an apartment near the office. Returning unexpectedly was a welcome shock.

"Around midnight. You were all asleep, so I didn't disturb anyone," Lu replied, heading downstairs.

"Young Master, I had no idea you were returning; the kitchen didn't prepare your usual breakfast. Shall I have them whip it up now?" the butler, Fu Bo, asked, equally stunned but mindful of mealtime.

"It's okay. I'll share whatever Grandfather and Grandmother are having. I need to get to the office soon."

"Then I'll have them bring you a bowl."

The old couple mostly had congee for breakfast due to dental issues.
