Rachel POV

Just then, the door swung open and Aderemi himself walked in, his presence commanding attention. His usual confident demeanor was nowhere to be seen, replaced by a palpable air of despair. His shoulders slumped, and his eyes cast downward as if the weight of his mistakes was crushing him.

He wore a crumpled white dress shirt, its sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing a hint of the veins that had once made my heart skip a beat. It almost made my heart skip again. The sight of him, rumpled and worn, tugged at my heartstrings, and for a moment, I forgot about the pain he had caused me. But as our eyes met, I remembered the hurt, and my expression hardened, shielding myself from the emotions that threatened to overwhelm me.
