"Jon is actually going to fight Vitas?"
Many of the onlookers were visibly surprised when they heard the news.
Vitas had made a name for himself in the Navy. As a Zoan-type Dog Dog Fruit user, he was known for his arrogance—but there was no doubt that he was a formidable fighter.
As for Jon, he had always kept a low profile, and not many people truly knew his strength.
Even the major feats he had accomplished—such as single-handedly battling Big Mom and outmaneuvering Roger's pirate crew—were only known to a select few.
To most, it seemed unlikely that Jon would be able to defeat Vitas.
Jon, however, didn't care what others thought. He turned to Vitas and said, "Let's go. To the training grounds."
A crowd quickly formed as they made their way to the base's internal training grounds. Their movement drew even more attention, and soon, more and more people joined in, eager to see the fight unfold.
The training grounds were designated for combat training and sparring matches, making it the perfect place for their duel.
Jon and Vitas stepped into the arena while the others stood outside, watching intently.
Vitas was visibly excited.
He had spent years challenging Jon, waiting for this moment.
To him, Jon was different from other opponents. Perhaps others didn't understand why, but he did—he was consumed by jealousy and resentment toward Jon.
And now, after all these years, he finally had his chance. He would give everything he had to not just defeat Jon, but humiliate him in front of everyone.
Jon didn't quite understand Vitas' obsession with him, but when he saw the way Vitas was looking at him, he could tell what this fight meant to him.
Honestly, if Vitas hadn't pushed him so relentlessly, Jon wouldn't have bothered.
He simply didn't see the point.
Aside from Sakazuki, Borsalino, and Dragon, he didn't believe that any of his former classmates could be a real challenge to him.
That wasn't arrogance—it was just confidence in his own abilities.
Maybe Vitas had fought in more battles over the years, but experience alone didn't determine strength.
Jon crossed his arms and asked, "How do you want to fight? Pure hand-to-hand combat? Devil Fruit abilities? Or something else?"
Vitas sneered and said, "No rules. No restrictions. We fight until one of us can't stand."
He didn't just want to win—he wanted to completely crush Jon.
Jon smirked. "No rules? Fine by me."
If Vitas had insisted on a pure hand-to-hand fight, Jon might not have been as confident against a Zoan-type user.
But if anything was fair game, then there was nothing to worry about.
"Ahhh, I've seen people dig their own graves, but I've never seen someone do it so eagerly."
Outside the ring, Borsalino sighed dramatically, shaking his head.
"Borsalino, Vitas isn't weak. Can Jon really beat him?" Doberman asked in a hushed voice.
Borsalino pursed his lips and said, "I don't know how strong Vitas is, but I know how strong Jon is. Even I'm not sure I could beat him. As for Vitas? He doesn't stand a chance."
Of all people, Borsalino was the one who understood Jon's abilities best.
Jon's arsenal of techniques was so dangerous that even he found them terrifying.
Dragon nodded in agreement. "Borsalino is right. Jon is the best at hiding his true strength."
If Jon had heard that, he probably would have scoffed—Seriously? Compared to you, Dragon, I'm an open book.
Sakazuki, meanwhile, remained silent, his cold expression unchanged.
Among the four of them, he was the least familiar with Jon's strength.
He knew Jon was powerful, but he had no concept of just how powerful.
On the other hand, he had fought alongside Vitas before and had a solid understanding of his abilities.
Vitas' combat power was respectable, especially in his transformed state.
However, Sakazuki trusted Borsalino's judgment—if he believed Jon had the upper hand, then he probably did.
Kuzan grinned. "Finally, I get to see Jon's abilities firsthand. This should be interesting."
He had heard Zephyr talk about Jon's talent for years but never had the chance to witness it himself.
Now, he was eager to see what all the hype was about.
The gathered crowd murmured among themselves, discussing the upcoming fight.
Both Jon and Vitas were among the Navy's most promising young officers, and the prospect of seeing them clash was thrilling.
In the center of the arena, Vitas locked eyes with Jon and growled, "I won't give you a single chance to fight back."
His pent-up frustration exploded into a fierce battle cry.
"AWOOOOOO!!"
A monstrous howl rang through the air as Vitas' body began to change.
His Navy uniform shredded apart as thick, black-gray fur erupted across his body.
His frame expanded rapidly, muscles bulging as his human features morphed into something far more bestial.
Within seconds, Vitas had completed his transformation.
A massive wolf stood in his place.
The sight was both awe-inspiring and terrifying.
"Whoa… So that's Vitas' Devil Fruit power? I've never seen him transform before."
For many of the spectators, this was their first time witnessing a Zoan transformation up close.
Vitas had been an imposing figure even in human form, but now he was enormous.
Standing over three meters tall and stretching five meters in length, he was a hulking, monstrous wolf.
His razor-sharp fangs gleamed ominously under the light.
Even though they were standing outside the training grounds, the watching soldiers could feel the sheer ferocity radiating from him.
Jon cocked an eyebrow. "Going all out from the start?"
He had expected some initial exchanges, some back-and-forth to gauge each other's strength.
But Vitas had immediately revealed his trump card.
Fine by me, Jon thought.
He raised his hands and clapped them together.
"Wood Golem!"
If Vitas was going to start with his best move, Jon wouldn't hold back either.
