Under the shocked gazes of everyone, Jon's body suddenly erupted with a dazzling greenish-blue light. His form began transforming into wood, rapidly expanding at an unnatural speed.
In the blink of an eye, Jon changed from a two-meter-tall human into a towering giant over thirty meters high. His wooden form had a brown complexion, completely different from human skin, and his hair turned into lush green foliage—he had transformed into an enormous Wooden Giant.
"…"
For a moment, countless onlookers erupted in curses, their faces filled with disbelief.
If Vitas' transformation had caught them off guard earlier, then Jon's transformation outright shattered their understanding of reality.
Vitas was an Animal-type Devil Fruit user, so it made sense that he could transform. But why could Jon transform too? Many people couldn't comprehend what they were seeing.
"I haven't seen this move from Jon in a long time," Peberton remarked, his eyes filled with nostalgia.
Jon had only ever used this Wooden Giant ability once before—during his battle against Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom). However, of all those present, only Peberton had witnessed it firsthand.
Aside from Peberton, Borsalino was the only other one somewhat familiar with Jon's technique, but for the vast majority, this was their first time seeing it.
Once fully transformed, Jon lifted his massive right foot and stomped down hard.
The moment his foot landed, the entire training ground trembled as if struck by an earthquake. The sheer force of the impact left behind a massive crater, instantly proving that this Wooden Giant wasn't just for show—it was a real, colossal behemoth, complete with immense mass and strength.
"What's going on?"
Sengoku, Garp, and Tsuru had just finished their meeting and were preparing to leave when they suddenly felt the tremor beneath their feet. Shocked, they turned their heads toward the training grounds.
The training area wasn't far, and Jon's enormous thirty-meter-tall figure towered over nearly all the base's buildings.
Even from a distance, Sengoku and the others immediately spotted the massive wooden head.
"That is…?" Sengoku muttered in disbelief.
Tsuru, on the other hand, instantly recognized the move. "That's Jon's technique… but why is he using it here? Is he fighting someone?"
Hearing that, Sengoku frowned. His impression of Jon had always been… complicated. If it weren't for Tsuru's strong recommendation, he wouldn't have even brought Jon on this mission.
Among Zypher's first batch of students, Sengoku had always favored Sakazuki (Akainu) and Borsalino (Kizaru).
They were stable, disciplined, and reliable.
Although Jon was undeniably talented and possessed a unique ability, Sengoku never felt he was as exceptional as Tsuru or Zypher made him out to be.
"That brat better not be causing trouble again," Sengoku muttered.
Hearing this, Tsuru immediately glared at him. "Sengoku, you're being unfair. Yes, Jon made mistakes in the past, but that incident wasn't entirely his fault! You're letting one event cloud your entire judgment—this isn't like you."
Sengoku stiffened, caught completely off guard by Tsuru's reaction.
After all, they'd been friends for decades. Seeing her take such a firm stance over a junior officer surprised him.
"I don't have any bias against him," Sengoku quickly defended himself, "I'm just saying—causing this much commotion inside the base isn't appropriate."
"Hmph, you're jumping to conclusions without even knowing what's happening. That's not like you," Tsuru shot back coldly.
What Sengoku didn't realize was that Tsuru's concern for Jon was deeply personal.
At 50 years old, she had dedicated her entire life to the Marines. She never married, never had children—her entire focus had been on her duty.
Though she trained many female soldiers, Jon was the only male soldier she had personally mentored for years.
Her bond with him was different—a mix of mentor, guardian, and even motherly concern.
Even after so many years of friendship, Sengoku had never realized this.
Before he could say anything else, Garp suddenly burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! You two sure love arguing—but enough talking, let's go check it out!"
Without waiting for a response, Garp grabbed both of them by the arms and rushed toward the training grounds.
By now, nearly every Marine in the base had noticed Jon's giant transformation.
The scene had even caught the attention of high-ranking officers, who were now rushing over to see what was happening.
Meanwhile, inside the training area, Vitas stood frozen, his wolf-like eyes widened in complete disbelief.
His brain struggled to process what he was seeing.
But soon, that shock was replaced by fury.
"So what if you got bigger?! Size alone doesn't determine strength!"
Though Jon's transformation was shocking, Vitas had complete confidence in his own raw power.
"AWOOOOOOO!!!"
With a terrifying wolf howl, Vitas charged forward!
—Fast!
—Incredibly fast!
Using all fours to sprint at full speed, Vitas closed the distance in an instant.
Though Jon's Wooden Giant form was massive, Vitas was still incredibly agile. Even when he jumped with all his strength, he couldn't reach Jon's upper body, so he aimed for Jon's giant leg instead, preparing to sink his fangs into the wood.
But before he could even get close…
BOOM!
A gigantic wooden palm swung down from above—
Slamming into Vitas like a truck.
His entire wolf-like body was instantly swatted away!
Before he could even process what happened, another shadow loomed over him—
Jon's massive foot.
BOOM!!!
With one brutal kick, Vitas was launched hundreds of meters away.
The impact was so violent that it ripped through the metal fencing surrounding the training grounds, sending his body crashing into the outer walls.
"…!!!"
A collective gasp spread through the crowd.
"Holy shit…"
"He sent him flying in just two hits?!"
"That's insane!"
The entire audience was completely stunned.
Even those who expected Jon to win never thought it would be this one-sided.
For a moment, many thought the fight was over.
But then—
"AWOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
A deafening wolf's howl rang out once more.
From the wreckage, a massive wolf-like figure emerged, its fur bristling with rage as it charged straight back toward Jon.
The battle wasn't over yet.
