Angels and Shadows

Can you all recommend some powers from fiction? Don't make them super overpowered, but something like street-level. I only got JJK and Chainsaw Man on the brain, so idk what else I can do.

- Heaven -

"Hmmm. This is pretty interesting." Gabriel said, a smile on her face while looking at footage on her tablet. She and Raphael were in their house, a small one, but feeling like home to them. Raphael was playing Xbox on the TV, lying on his back on their queen-sized bed they share while Gabriel snuggled on top of him.

"What's up, Gabe?" Raphael asked, mildly interested while still focusing on his game. Gabriel sat up, stretching on their yellow-covered sheets. "Okay, first: I told you to stop calling me Gabe." Raphael cracked a small smile. "Also, you know how our Hell intelligence department keeps surveillance of everything in hell?" Raphael nodded, paying more attention to Gabriel while losing the game.

"Apparently, they cracked a deal with one of the overlords down there, and we got some information on that James guy. They just sent me and the other archangels the footage." Raphael fully lost the round, swearing under his breath about 'Bitch ass, Spider-man' before turning to Gabriel. "Isn't that the guy Michael called the meeting about?"

"Yeah, the same guy. Apparently the intelligence got some info about him, and they had this overlord, Vick Vought, or something, go over and provoke him. We got some good info about the guy too." She gives the tablet to Raphael, showing him the events of the theater. "Apparently he has some kind of wind magic that he uses to cut things, along with 4 arms. They theorize that he has some kind of special energy that powers this, but we can't tell yet."

"Why now?" Raphael questions. "Doesn't he use hell energy like everyone else?" Gabriel scratched her neck, looking confused. "See, that's what I thought as well, but hell, energy needs some kind of theatrics of sorts, a tell-tale sign that it's being used. That deer overlord had that voodoo stuff and shadows; the overlord the intelligence department got had that whole TV thing and electricity."

She rewinds the footage to when James used dismantle to cut Valentino and puts it in slow motion. "See, here he doesn't have anything near him doing any of this, no shadows, flashes of electricity; he just waved his arm and it happened." Raphael looked at the footage for a bit before pinching the bridge of his nose. "We got some guy down there making up energy, defying all known laws of magic? We're going to have to call Adam about this, aren't we?"

She lets out a little sigh as well. "Yup." They both sit in near silence, only the music of the game accompanying them before Gabriel breaks it. "Do you want to play Mortal Kombat?" Raphael instantly perks up with a smirk and passes a controller to Gabriel. "Don't use Ermac this time; he's the only one you know how to play." Gabriel returns his smirk. "So I'm being punished for being actually good at the game?"

Raphael didn't say anything and continued to the character selection screen, both of them in comfortable silence, confident that James would be dealt with.

- Hell -

James walked down the streets, a slouching posture in his original form with his shirt tattered and pants being very stretched out. People moved out of his way when he walked, almost looking scared. 'What the hell's going on? Did I do something?' He questioned in his mind before walking in front of a TV store and seeing himself on the news.

"Welcome everybody, I'm Katie Killjoy and this is your daily fucking news!" Katie was a very pale and slender woman with modest breasts and long red acrylic nails, along with a load of makeup on her face. "Yes, today it's been revealed t—" A man with the name of Tom Trench tried to talk. He had a blue suit with a red tie and a gas mask on.

"Shut the fuck up, Tom; nobody wants to hear you." Katie said with a massive fake smile on her face. "Today, the identity of the man who not only beat the radio demon but also beat a—" Katie was cut off by a producer with a suit and clipboard coming up to her and whispering in her ear.

"What, what do you want?"

"...."

"The script changed? Why the fuck is it changing now? We have had this information for 2 days now."

"..."

"We got pressured into not talking about it? This whole news studio is going to shit."

While the producer and Kate were silently arguing, Tom looked at the script, and his eyes under the gas mask widened a little bit. "Holy smokes, the guy killed a Goetia, Alastor, and Vox!?" Katie slowly turned to him, her fake smile getting ever more strained. "You fucking would say that about our boss, the one who decides our livelihoods, wouldn't you, Tom?" She says through gritted teeth.

Tom tries to say something, but Katie leaps over the table and tackles Tom, screaming and hitting him repeatedly before the TV cuts, saying TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. 'Oh shit.' James thinks, speed walking to try and get to the hotel. 'Alright, I need to think about this for a moment. Now I'm a famous identity in hell of all places; someone could come to the hotel and smoke everyone there for 50 bucks and a lighter.'

A scowl formed on his face. 'I can't count on Charlie, considering what Vox said; she couldn't help me anyway. My best bet is just staying in the hotel, but what about Amery and Nifty?' His scowl deepens as he remembers the two women before his mind flashes back to Vaggie. 'I know Vaggie could potentially defend herself, especially after I upgraded her with my cursed energy… I wonder if I could do the same thing with Amery and Nifty.'

As James continued with his inner monologue, the system appeared in front of his face.

[Minor fate changed! One roll awarded

[Would you like to use it now?]

Without paying attention, he absentmindedly told the system 'yes' while trying to figure out the pros and cons about enhancing Amery and Nifty. 'On one hand, they'll definitely be stronger; with me teaching them with my six eyes, they could probably defend themselves. On the other hand, though, I have no idea if it'll work again. Vaggie was an angel and near death when I enhanced her; I have no idea how it would react to a regular sinner and a robot.'

[Rolling… rolling… rolling]

[Congrats, host! You got: Me and 10 of My Shadows.

Just like all of the other times James has gotten the information, it is directly streamed into his head, and a wild grin appears on his face. Obviously, it was the ten shadows technique, used by Megumi Fushiguro and Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen, and what James considered wasted potential. 'I always wondered how a Six Eyes user would react to the 10 shadows, especially knowing that Sukuna could enhance the summons beyond their base with his massive reserves of cursed energy.'

James continued to walk while thinking, his grin creeping out nearby citizens. 'Though, I think I have an idea for them. I haven't used any binding vows yet; I still don't know if they're like nen vows or not. From what I know, binding vows are dependent on Jujutsu as a whole, being about speed and disregarding any natural advantages, while nen vows heavily differ depending on what you are and what you can do.'

He looked up at the red sky and thought in his head. 'Binding vow: I can't use Shrine for 20 minutes. In exchange, the next slash is instant.' As the thought finished, James felt a constricting feeling around his heart, like a chain wrapping around his entire being. He opened his palm, trying to summon slashes above his hand, yet the only thing he felt was the chains squeezing him tightly, stumbling in his tracks from the pain. But more importantly, no slashes.

'Just like I thought. The binding vow only takes into account how losing a cursed technique would affect me but disregards my other capabilities. If it can do this, then I can only wonder what I can do with the 10 shadows… Man, I really am becoming Sukuna. Hopefully I won't end up as a binding vow merchant.'

While James was walking, he was oblivious to the shadows underneath his feet changing forms. First, two dogs formed, their spectral heads tilting as they howled silently. Then frogs, tongues flicking outward. A snake's jaw snapped at passersby. Rabbits stacked on top of each other. An elephant churned liquid in its trunk. A thunderbird crackled with electricity. A tiger prowled. An ox charged. A deer radiated light, its presence banishing lesser shadows around it.

And above all else, an 8-pointed wheel nestled at the head of James' shadow, awaiting its time.
