Chapter 20: Real power

Vexx moved around the darkness on his body and made it thicker in some places. The process was relatively easy but combining it with deflecting the enemy's attack would not be an easy task. 

Vexx stood up and took a deep breath and asked Vorkin to attack him again. This time when Vorkin came close Vexx extended the darkness on his forearms by a few millimeters and when the claws hit he tried to stop them in a smooth motion but it ended up with Vexx on the ground. 

Vexx stood up again and he took blows for around 30 minutes with no progress whatsoever. 'This is harder than I thought it would be. The more darkness the easier it is to block and make the claws bounce away but that makes it harder to switch spots and it takes time to get the darkness to the spot in time.' After thinking how to better optimize it for him he just decided that practice would probably be his best choice.

Vexx stood up again and ordered Vorkin to continue to attack him after another 30 minutes. He felt more comfortable with the darkness extending at the point of impact but he still had a long way to go. 

Vexx took a second to breath and then realized that he was covered in sweat. Vexx had been covered in his darkness so he didn't realize that he had been sweating. After a few minutes of breathing Vexx started the third and last video his system had provided him, And honestly this was the video he was looking forward to the most. 

[Playing Basic enhancements]

The video was exactly like the other two: the strange man appeared again but instead two trees stood in front of him. The trees had a thick stem with next to no leaves on them. 

"Enhancements are one of the basics that give us a big advantage against other beings. Think of the enhancement like your blood. It flows through your entire body. When you became a Dark human you started developing veins running through your body. The veins are usually empty but if you control your darkness into them you can enhance your body." 

The man took a break and punished the tree with a usual punch. The tree got a big dent in it. "But be careful. If you let too much of your darkness run through the veins then they will explode. The veins expand the closer you get to the darkness."

Before the video closed Vexx saw how the man punched the other tree, this time the whole tree got a hole in it.

When Vexx saw the immense power bost he dropped his jaw but soon a grin appeared on his pale face. Vexx looked down at his arm that was pure darkness and wondered if the dark enhancements could extend to it as well. There was just one thing that bothered Vexx a little

'What did he mean by other beings?' 

Vexx quickly dismissed the thought and started thinking of how the enhancement worked. After about 5 minutes he had two theories of how the enhancement could work. Either he needed to imagine the veins full with darkness or he did the usual method but instead of extending his darkness outwards he needed to do it inward. 

After thinking about it Vexx didn't know what would happen if he tried to extend the darkness inward so he decided to try out the other theory he had first.

Vexx slowly closed his eyes and tried imagining the darkness running through veins. After around 10 minutes of trying to imagine the darkness he gave up. 

Vexx stood up and felt how his pulse started to raise as he started to extend the darkness inward. When Vexx felt how his body felt re-energized and stronger he took some more of the darkness and he became stronger. Vexx tried small amounts so that his veins whouldn't burst. After the 4th time he felt how the veins couldn't hold any more so he stopped. 

Vexx felt more powerful than ever and opened his stats to see that nothing had changed. The stats hadn't changed but he felt more powerful. Vexx looked at the screen and wondered why it didn't show up but didn't bother with it.

Vexx looked at the trees in front of him and threw a punch and saw how his fist almost had gone half way through the big stem. 

Vexx looked at his hand and realized that he didn't even have a scratch and that it felt like punching a big pillow instead of a tree. 'This has more perks than i thought' 

Vexx played around with the enhancements for 20 minutes before going back to the academy. When Vexx got back he decided to shower and then go to eat with Blake and Kamari. 

The rest of the week got by really quickly. Vexx enjoyed the lessons more than he thought he would. When he had time he decided to train his darkness abilities. The enhancement felt much better than it had done previously and the dark blocks got better as well. Vexx felt prepared for the hunting.

On Monday morning Vexx woke up and got dressed and headed out of his room and headed to breakfast along with Blake and Kamari. "Are you guys ready?" Blake asked, glancing at Vexx when walking. "I'm super ready, I trained the whole week for this," Kamari said in his usual happy tone. "Yeah, I think it will be fine." Vexx answered seemingly somewhere else in his thoughts. 

When they had taken food they sat down and ate the food. While they sat down at the table they discussed the roles they could take on the upcoming hunt. 

"I think I would be best at supporting the vanguard or being more of a supporting role" Kamari said while thinking about what would best suit him. "I think the same goes for me but I can also be a bit of an assassin type if you would need to." Blake said while looking at Vexx and Kamari. "I can be vanguard with Naomi and Sky can be a sniper" Vexx finally said while thinking that the team would be pretty good.
